Cool New P-car 4me

Well not exactly as I am not new to P-cars but this is my 1st Cayman. As a former Carrera owner never thought I'd be here (have owned a 996, 997.1, 997.2S and most recently a 997.2 C4S) but here I am. Look what followed me home from the dealership! Car was spec ordered to my particular wants for options...today traded my 2009 C4S for this stunning 2014 Cayman S in Agate Grey. Drove the 991S and wasn't that impressed...not enough to upgrade from my C4S especially for the increase in size and price but when I saw the lines of the new Boxster lines I was like wow (had a 2009 Boxster also a few years ago) and the Cayman aesthetically just was right! Aggressive and bigger it looked much more refreshed than even the venerable Carrera's I'd always just basically automatically gravitated to. Well I drove a PDK Cayman S and was thoroughly impressed...it was many things that my 997.2 was not [updated and refreshed, comfortable but fun as a drivers car] and a few things I didn't expect. So I ordered the following car:

Standard interior in Black -- AG
Rear wiper - 425
PASM - 475
Bi-Xenon - 603
Sports Design Steering - 840
Power Sports Seats - P06
Premium Package - P9B
Infotainment Package - P9G
Carbon Fiber Console Trim - XHM
Carbon Fiber Interior Package - EEH
PSE - XLF
6spd manual transmission - no cost

So far impressions..I like...like a lot. My C4S was PDK v 1.0 and it had definite issues with lag which had me always driving it in Sport mode. PDK is great don't get me wrong and the newer cars its magic but I wanted to become back involved with the road and shifting in such a well balanced drivers car. More impressions to follow once its broken in but so far not regretting my choices. Oh yeah here are the obligatory pics too.

PS...Clear LED markers already here (Suncoast), Zunsport front grille protectors in black..check and Carrera S III wheels in satin platinum are in the garage ready for swap out in the AM (wheel enhancement). Thanks guys especially Dave at Suncoast and Barrier Porsche in Bellevue, WA.

Congrats!

Very nicely specced!

I have a feeling we will start seeing more and more converts from the 911 to the Cayman/Boxster with time. I think getting above the 300 Hp mark has finally made them competitive as well, more than enough power to get you into trouble.....although more would be better!

Post up some pics after the mods are done.

Enjoy in good health.

Looks great - really like the carbon fiber trim! Who was your CA at Barrier? Any chance it was Rafael?

Yes and with the ability to even upgrade them with the 991S engine for a mere $20-30k then why buy the 991S unless you need the space or the name or it is your preference. The new car I think really gives the model some breathing room and allows more buyers but will take away a few Carrera owners who just aren't feeling the 991 totally.

Here are the most updated bits from Sundays' garage work!

Yes I didn't like the silver and how it reflected inside the car and didn't want the other two-tone leather combos...most didn't fit right or were too light for daily use for me. So I looked at one of the 991's with CF and a Cayenne GTS and saw them very tastefully done and went that route. Much more unique and fitting the character of the car and build I think.

Will do...so hard to keep it under 4k RPM and 70mph I've noticed. Its not my daily driver so that should be a little easier and also harder on me too! Will probably swap out the oil as I always do in my cars at 3k [habit] on my dime.

Thanks...swapped out the Cayman S 19" wheel set in the garage yesterday for OEM Carrera III S 20" wheels in satin platinum. Hard to find...only a few sets in the US but Dave at Wheel Enhancement found me a one (and gave me a good deal on my new OEM 19" set as takeoffs...go see the man for your p-car needs!) I think the car now definitely looks much more better! Clear sides were also done. Tint and clear bra is next within the next 30 days but I've got a Dinan Stage 5 moded 2012 BMW 550i (daily driver) that is waiting for a Dinan LSD upgrade so have balance that a bit/juggle the two.

Congrats on the new ride! I ended up with the same color combo in my new 981 Boxster S (see Nova Scotia road trip post) less the carbon bits which are a really nice touch. I am sure you will love the Kman, especially when you can start driving it hard.

Not only nicer looking, but weigh less than the standard current Cayman 19s.

Rob - Love your car man.... You made a great choice. So how do you like it vs. your 997? I hope I get to see it someday.

Chris...thanks man...emailed you the long initial review but compared to my 997 C4S...am not missing much. You do notice the lower torque a bit but only if you really are just launching the car (i.e. flooring the thing). Otherwise not that much. Realize I am still in the break in period so am being careful about gunning the engine and driving vigorously too. Otherwise on the day to day streets..it is quick enough 99% of the time and driving dynamics are spot on. Aesthetics...probably the best looking p-car I've owned! It really is notice and makes a presence so far almost like a little Ferrari or something. Get thumbs up on base too on this one and a lot of double takes. So far very satisfied.
