Thinking about getting 987

I owned a 987 Cayman first and then also bought a 996.
They are really two different cars in how they feel, and how/where you drive the car might make the biggest difference in which you might prefer.
In my case, I am comparing a Cayman S (6 speed) to a '01 C4 Cabriolet (tiptronic), so they are quite different mechanically as well as body style.
If I was to use one as a daily driver or take very many 300+ mile trips, I would probably choose the 996 or buy a 997.
For fun driving in the twisties, I will take the Cayman just about every time. They are also much more rare at PCA rallies and other sports car gatherings.
If I had to pare down to just one, the 996 would have to go. The 987 chassis is just lighter and more nimble, more raw, a bit louder (both road and mechanical noise), and a fair amount cheaper than it's 997 bigger brother.

You do lose the rear seat but you gain a rear trunk. Sometimes I do miss being able to throw something into the back seat though.
As far as the convertible thing, I like the looks of the Boxster S better than a 997 cab.
Not sure about the 991 though. I may give a serious consideration of a 991 sometime in the future, maybe even a coupe. That would be a first for me, I've never owned a "closed" Porsche. The closest I had was a 1980 911SC Targa.
Best to drive them and decide for yourself.

I traded in my 2003 996TT for a custom order 2011 Spyder. It arrived in May 2011 and my wife and I absolutely think it was the best automotive move we have ever made. The car is honest and yet follows your every command. My wife really enjoys driving it ...so much so that I wish we had bought two!
