Where to Find an Individual Selling a Porsche
I would really like to find a slightly used 2014 Cayman S or maybe a 2010/2011 911. I can get a pretty good deal from my local dealer on a new one, but would love to save a bit of money finding a used one. In Illinois, the difference between the sales tax for a private high dollar car purchase and a dealer high dollar car purchase is several thousand dollars.
I have been scouring Craigslist, eBay, cars.com, carguru, Rennlist and Planet-9 and there have been no 2014 Caymans (no surprise, there are few available even from dealers since they are so new) and very, very few 911s. Any ideas of where else to look? Admittedly this searching has all been very recent, since I just got 981 fever.

About all you'd find would be maybe a demo or one driven by say a dealer GM.
A good car is where you find it so look everywhere. In addition to the sources you mentioned above, look in Panorama, Excellence, Autotrader.com, newspaper car ads, and even Porsche's used car web site.
I can't imagine a private owner wanting to sell a recently bought 2014 Cayman S. He'd probably not like to be the one to absorb even a few thousands dollars in depreciation so soon after buying the new car.
I'm not current on the 2014 Cayman/Boxster market but are you sure you can't swing a deal on a 2014 from a dealer for a few $K less than sticker?

Chiboy, if you are a PCA Member, you can place a free "Want To Buy" ad in the Chicago Section's Scene newsletter. Worth a shot.

There is about a $3,500 difference between sales tax rates on a $70k car from a dealer and one bought privately in Illinois. That may be as important $ wise as finding a slightly used one.

Just keep in mind that a "slightly used car from a Porsche dealer would come with CPO warranty which is an extension of the standard warranty.
We bought a 2000 miles used 2013 Boxster last week with (by coincidence) the exact same options and colors that we wanted to order a new one for. Had to buy it out of State but it was worth it. Never registered plus CPO. Any difference for you if you bought out of State?

Check out Porsche of Livermore in CA. I just got an email about a 2014 with 1500 miles for 7k off msrp.

There are 2 used 2014 Caymans on Autotrader as of this morning. I have my aqua Cayman R listed for sale here so I've been keeping an eye on other listings. I can't fathom why someone would be selling a new Pcar with less than 3000 miles unless its a dealer demo. I didn't read the details on either but you can try this. Good luck in your search.

Thanks. I have seen them. The red one in Atlanta was damaged in the dealer's lot and is getting body repairs and a new radiator. Not for me...
The white one is a base model and is about $1,000 below list. I can do way better on a new one here locally, and I want an S.

Thanks, yes, I looked there today and talked to two of the dealers. One wanted $3500 off sticker for a used one (I can do better on a new one here), and one wanted about $9,500 off sticker for a used one with 5,000 miles and 13 dents repaired after a hail storm. Not exactly compelling, LOL.

Well, they're great cars, but the "brand new" should fade a bit in a while. Plus, it's heading toward fall and put away weather in a large swath of the country, at least the way retailers have to look at it.
As summer shortens and more people who can afford to say "not quite right for me" or "ooh, look at that shiny car over there" do that, your choices and pricing may improve a bit.
Good luck. I ordered my 981BS and, even though I hate the thought of losing thousands just so it would be brand new, it surely is nice to have everything the way I wanted it.
My biggest plug is for ventilated seats. Love them!
