Default 981 Oil Temperature

While driving my 981 hard, revving the engine etc the oil temp runs between 207 and 214. Driving 65 mph on the freeway, it creeps up to 237 and stays there even when the outside temperature is below 60 degrees. Does this seem right? Water temp is nearly always 200.

That sounds high, I'll have to look next time I drive. Which may be a while since it's cold here.

Hmmm... Water temp around 200F is right, but oil temp 237 seems high for street/highway driving. It's within acceptable limits, but seems hot to me. I only know the temps that my spyder gets while on track and haven't logged while street driving. I can tell you that before my 3rd radiator I hit 261F oil temp, and after the 3rd radiator I hit a peak of 239F oil temp. However, these are temps while driving hard at Laguna Seca lap after lap.

Does this mean the 981 finally got an oil temp gauge?

Yes it does... but it's not even a real gauge. You can bring up (or set to) oil temp and pressure on the LCD screen. No separate gauge like 911 though... sad considering that PANAMERA (wagon) and CAYENNE (SUV!) have these gauges...

Bill, I've noticed for a while now that you've changed cars again. Got rid of R8 V10? How does SLK compare?

Default Sounds high on several levels

1. My water always runs about 180-185 unless i'm working it very hard
2. I don't have an oil temp guage on my 986, but on my other and previous cars, oil stays between 180-200.. A few weeks back, running VIR, my Audi got up to about 210-220. That's on track. (cool weather though)
3. Jake raby recently was concerned by oil temps exceeding 250 deg on race cars, causing failures. So 237 cruising down the highway seems very high.

My thoughts exactly, it seems if anything it should run hotter while driving hard compared to cruising on the highway. The car has had the emissions system repaired twice already, wondering if something they did is contributing to the higher temp.

When car is heated up to normal operating temperature and running in normal city driving, water is consistently 200. Oil varies between 215-225.
