Same here but I've heard the major services cost about $18K and I can't stomach that. If I had an abundance of $ I might consider it but with two kids in private school and eventually college I don't see it happening anytime soon.

I wouldn't put too much stock in what Clarkson thinks or says. Some of you may or may not know him well, but he's generally considered to be very silly (put mildly) or simply idiotic by many. Also, he hates or ridicules everything Porsche. Slightly strange, since his tone towards Porsche was decidedly different about 10 years ago.

Disclaimer: do I think he's funny? Yes. Do I love Top Gear? YES.

Of course I have never met Clarkson, but most of us have to admit that the number 1 reason that Top Gear is as big a success and loved as much as it is, is because of Jeremy. I don't agree with everything that he says, but I have seen every show since its inception, and truly enjoy all 3 guys, but Clarkson is # 1 in my book....partly because of his silliness.

I do not believe that is an accurate quote. If I remember correctly, what he said was that he thought the 458 was the best looking since the 308 - a very different statement. And I believe he had a 348 or 355.

I also think the 355 was just stunning. I owned a 360 Spider and a F430 Spider. I really loved the curves and the look of the 360, but the F430 left me cold. Just to interject a thought: about 5 years ago I spent about 18 months working for Ferrari in marketing, customer relations and event planning. I can say, based on experience and knowledge, that mechanically, Porsche builds a superior car to Ferrari. But I love them both!

No, my statement was accurate. Jeremy said that the 308 was the last really good looking Ferrari until the 458. This was said during his 458 test on top Gear.

They can be very expensive. It's my understanding that the best Ferrari from a normal maintenance perspective is supposed to be the last 328s.

That said, it's really just the looks and sound that you would be getting versus the Spyder. All the objective numbers are in the Spyder's favor.

It's hard to not love companies that have the racing history they both have.
Now if we could only get them back to Le Mans, competing for overall.

Direct quote from JC: "I think [the 458] is the first properly pretty Ferrari since the 308 came along in 1975".

Agreed on the looks and sound, the 355 beats the Spyder on both of these fronts IMO. Throw in reliability, better build quality, better parts availability (even 30 years from now) and better performance and the Spyder becomes very attractive.

The Spyder has completely won me over and the result is that I'm now having to changing my DD's more frequently to scratch the buying itch. I guess that's a good thing since I won't spend as much on a DD. I'm about to pull the trigger on a Mercedes C32 unless someone talks me out of it!

Personally, I don't think 355 was or is a better looking car than a Spyder. But that's just my opinion only.

Disclaimer: Ferraris never really did it for me.

355 is the best looking and sounding Ferrari of all time IMO.

The spyder that I test drove sold two days ago. Hopefully it went to a nice home.
