Fabspeed Motorsport: 981 Boxster S Maxflo Exhaust Development

Fabspeed Motorsport finalized the Maxflo performance exhaust products for the new Porsche 981 Boxster and Cayman vehicles. Research and development was performed on a Boxster S with the 6-speed manual transmission. In stock trim this 981 Boxster S made 269.7HP/242.7 ft-lbs. of torque to the rear wheels. Similar to the 986/987/987.2 models, Fabspeed offers the Maxflo Muffler and Race Exhaust as a direct replacement for the OEM muffler. The Sport and Race Headers are also available to further improve power with the Fabspeed catback exhaust system or the OEM mufflers. For those who just want to improve the tip section of the OEM muffler, Fabspeed offers the Deluxe bolt-on Tips in polished and black chrome finish.
Aside from the exhaust components, Fabspeed designed front/rear tie downs along with a rear jack box. All products are available for sale and more information can be found on our website: FABSPEED 981 PAGE

Maxflo Muffler & Race Exhaust

Fabspeed's Maxflo Muffler with Deluxe Tips is a direct replacement for the restrictive OEM muffler and will bolt to the OEM headers or Fabspeed's Sport/Race Headers for even more power and sound. Along with the weight savings and power upgrade, the exhaust note will improve to a much deeper tone that growls at wide-open-throttle. This is the perfect solution for the daily driven 981 and occasional DE event. The Maxflo Muffler system includes 3.5" deluxe dual tips available in polished or black chrome.

981 Boxster Maxflo Muffler with Deluxe Tips
-- Saves 9.2 lbs/4.2 kg from the rear.
-- Improves power on the Boxster S to 326HP/278 ft-lbs. of torque.
-- Constructed from high quality 14-16 gauge CNC mandrel bent T304L stainless steel for maximum performance and durability.
-- Direct bolt-on replacement for the restrictive OEM muffler.
-- Specify Polished or Black Chrome tips.

Fabspeed's Race Exhaust with Deluxe Tips is a direct replacement for the restrictive OEM muffler and will bolt to the OEM headers or Fabspeed's Sport/Race Headers for even more power and sound. This system is the lightest possible exhaust available for the 981 and will dramatically improve the exhaust note. This is the perfect solution for a dedicated race car or the enthusiasts who wants a very aggressive exhaust note. The Race Exhaust system includes 3.5" deluxe dual tips available in polished or black chrome.

981 Boxster Race Exhaust with Deluxe Tips
-- Saves 15.9 lbs/7.2 kg from the rear.
-- Improves power on the Boxster S to 328HP/276 ft-lbs. of torque.
-- Constructed from high quality 14-16 gauge CNC mandrel bent T304L stainless steel for maximum performance and durability.
-- Direct bolt-on replacement for the restrictive OEM muffler.
-- Specify Polished or Black Chrome tips.

Sport Headers & Race Headers

To further improve power on the 981 Boxster S, Fabspeed designed the Sport and Race Headers that will work either the OEM exhaust or the Fabspeed Maxflo Muffler/Race Exhaust. The Sport Headers feature German imported 200 cell tri-metallic HJS sport catalytic converters that are emission compliant with no CEL's. The Race Headers are designed for track use as these are catless and may throw the CEL.

981 BoxsterSport Headers with 200 cell Sportcats
-- Saves 6.5 lbs/2.9 kg from the rear.
-- Improves power +13.7HP/10.9 ft-lbs. of torque to the wheels @ 6600RPM with the Maxflo Muffler installed.
-- Constructed from equal length T304L stainless steel C.N.C. mandrel bent header pipes for improved torque and equalized engine pulsing.
-- High performance F1/NASCAR/IndyCar style 3-into-1 merge collector.
-- Incorporates German imported 200 cell tri-metallic HJS sport catalytic converters.
-- Direct bolt-on replacement for the OEM headers that is safe for emissions with no CEL.
-- Includes stainless steel composite gaskets for a leak proof seal.

Do you plan on making cat bypass pipes for the 981?

Joe@Fabspeed 10-08-2012 04:49 PM

HI Troy

Yes we have built essentially catalytic converter Bypass pipes for all 981 cars. The factory headers have 2 catalytic convertersiinstalled on each exhaust bank or header. Fabspeed designed RACE headers with NO catalytic converters for the 981 cars just like we did for Racers running 986 and all 987/987.2 cars.

So to answer your question headers with NO cats would be catbypass pipes in all 981 applications. The cars is really well engineered and each rear fender allows the engine to get dual feeds of air as compared to any and all previuos 986/987 cars.

WE also have rear dyno proven MAXFLO sports exhaust systems and Race versions that are true dual outlet sport exhausts.

Hi Joe,

I just installed the MaxFlo system on my 981 and am very happy with the improved sound and gains. I was, however, hoping for more of a deep throaty exhaust note which I'm hoping to achieve by upgrading to the Fabspeed sport headers. My question for you is are your headers street legal and comply with CO2 emission regulations here in Canada?

Thanks,
JS

How do we access this from California?

Noah Fect 09-10-2016 03:47 AM

Very cool videos. One more question, as long as people are piling them on -- have you ever taken consecutive dyno baseline runs from a PSE-equipped car with PSE turned on versus turned off? I'd be curious to know if there's any difference between the two modes. You guys sound like you'd be in a position of some authority on the matter.

Hello Justin,

I believe we have been chatting on my youtube channel in regards to the Race Headers I put on my CR haha. Our Sport Headers are going to make a big difference on your car, both with sound and performance. They are the biggest restriction point on the Boxster/Cayman platform.

We sell our products to Canada almost every day, and I've never heard of any of my clients (or anyone else's here for that matter) that had an emissions test issue in Canada with our Sport Cats. The only place we have issues with is California due to their visual CARB certification, and some areas of Europe with TUV certification.

PSE automatically opens regardless of having it on or off (between 3500-4000 under full throttle depending on the car). We typically run in full open mode as PSE is activated during the modes and times when you are putting the car through it's paces. Regardless, there isn't much difference in the low RPM's on or off, but you definitely don't want the PSE valves closed past 4k...too much backpressure in the factory exhaust system, no bueno

Yep. What I'm curious about is exactly what happens in that range, before the valves open, where we always see a dip in the 3000-3500 area.
