+1............

You either want it, or you don't. If you're going to nickel and dime and worry about depreciation this, what's my money doing/do I want to spend that, then it's not for you.

Wait, wth are we talking about again? Prime investments?

There will never be a collectible Boxster, there were just too many of them made. Buy it because you like it, but it will never be an investment.

you can talk yourself out of buying a Porsche for lots of reasons; I know because I did it for 35 years. Now, I don't know what I was thinking all that time.

You go with you passion and your gut. If your passion is numbers, you'll never buy the boxster, but if your passion is the marque and the excellence of the cars it relentlessly produces, you'll buy the car, wonder what the hell you were thinking, and never look back.

I don't mean to preach (hopefully to the choir on this forum), but I regret the years spent driving 'practical' cars. Best of luck with your choice.

even though there are only 200 spyders in the UK. Blame it on the British weather which proved too much for most owners. I think things will settle when these go to enthusiasts who value them... Makes me want to buy another one...(my third spyder!!!). The european crisis doesn't help at all.

similar situation with the CR. It being released for 1 year and the economic crisis did it no favours. The fact that it won the autocar performance car of the year came right at the end of production also limited production numbers. In the end, I expect CR numbers (despite the more useable hardtop) to be about the same as the spyder. At least it is holding up better in terms of re-sale......

I know. opposite to the U.S.
your steering wheels are also on the wrong side, making it less desirable for someone here in the U.S. to import.

No way, it's gotta be a C2S cab with PASM, PTV, sport chrono, heated/ventilated sport seats plus, and Bose.

A major reason why Porsche prices are out of wack with the rest of the market is because of the smug factor of the sellers, well... at least for certain models. Just ask the guy who is selling a 993 TT or C2S now. I was shopping for 993's a few years back, most are around $50k, sounds reasonable. Saw one a week ago, going for near $90k! Guess what, can't blame them for asking that much, cause some dofuss with even bigger smug will gladly spend the money.

Actually the cars seem to be holding their value quite well in the US. I just purchased a 987.2 Boxster that stickered for $54,000 and purchased from a Porsche Dealer for $34,500. That means it held about 64% of its value. Edmunds estimate for private sale was $33,500 and Dealer sale was $36,500. So, I would use 60% for a 3 year old car. Mine only had 33K miles and 6 months of factory warranty remaining.

I never buy new cars, it doesn't make sense to me-but just as well other people do;-)

Its a very easy decision, if you want the new shape, chances are you'll have to buy new or very close to new-big hit on deprecation. If you would enjoy the 'old' shape, you can save a ton of cash and still have basically the same car without the new car smell or window sticker glue.

I bought my 2011 Cayman with 18k miles, PDK a load of extra's listing out on the build sheet at $62,485.00, plus tax & tabs would take it up to just about $70k. My previous owner dropped $30k in 25 months. You can expect roughly the same.

It came with nearly 2 year warranty and I bought it for $39k, plus tabs no sales tax in AZ if its not titled to a dealer. It took me 6 months to find. it was and is immaculate.

No, its not the latest model, if you like the latest Boxter shape and nothing else would do, I should stop typing now............

Cars for me are an investment in fun, utility etc. When I buy, I don't think about what it will sell for in 3-5 or whatever years. Drive it until its no longer fun, my needs change, or its starts to become unreliable.

My 10c.

Honestly, unless you have very specific options you want to order, you should be able to easily find a 981 Boxster (S) at a dealer, CPO, with under 10K miles, for $10K under sticker.

Couple examples at my local dealer.
