New Boxster naked out in the open!

I think it's a good idea for Porsche to further differentiate the look between the 911/991 and Boxster/Cayman series. I had often wondered how much sales the Boxster cannibalized from the Carrera Cab, for example.
Do you guys think the new turbo flat-4 will be accepted here in the US? It is said to have more than 300 hp; some rumors say as much as 340.

1. Is it lighter?
2. Power Delivery
3. Sound
If I were buying a Spyder I would consider all of the above factors although I would put emphasis on Power Delivery. My Speed3 is a Turbo 4 with 268 Hp and I can say without a doubt that if the Porsche 4 version has similar characteristics I would not be interested. The power comes on strong at lower RPM's and drops off dramatically above 5700 RPM. So you have a small band to work with which is manageable but requires frequent shifts. It's also not a smooth surge, it's more like a rush once the Turbo realy kicks in. It will be interesting to see the Hp and Torque curves for the Porsche 4 when they become available, that's what will really matter IMHO.
Ok I see your point. I agree that the cut line in the rear fender above the intake looks awful. The bump behind the intake also looks out of place but the rest looks good.

+1 on that body panel line behind the door handle/above intake
cost cutters pushing design to the background?
agree with a lot of what Cayman and others have said
always liked the Boxster for the "elegance of simplicity"
this car does seem "busy"
if this is the 2013 model, maybe we just need to wait for the 2014 models so they can fix all of the mistakes

As critical as I have been about the new Boxster aesthetic, I have to admit that the look is growing on me. Once reminding me of a pimped out MR2, the side intakes now remind me of the R8 ahead of anything else. Yeah, the winglet on the back is controversial, but it does bisect some otherwise biggish taillights. In doing so, the rear lights appear smaller than they really are. Related, the issue I'm having with the new 911 (i.e. 991) is the opposite, i.e. the thin taillights make the rear bumper look huge.

I will say one thing for it, it looks much more masculine.
As far as the Spyder production, it doesn't add up. Porsche said it would be a part of the regular line-up, yet they knew production on the old platform was ending soon. The car ended up being a critically acclaimed and a huge hit. Now we won't see one until 2015? Personally I think the claim that it would be a regular part of the line-up was an error on Porsche's part. Either way, I'm glad it turned out to be a limited edition.

A little too much Toyota MR-2 for my liking, sorry.

Looks like a cross between a MB SLK and BMW Z4. The Spyder had restored my faith and long time love affair with Porsche but then I see this. I hope the pictures are not real. Not looking like a new Porsche for my 40th after all.

I wouldn't worry once you see it the flesh I'm sure it'll be great. It'll be lighter like the 991 and the S will go like today's Spyder, using the logic that a 991 S performs better than a 997 GT3. Never fear this is a move in the right direction. And standby for the new Spyder in a few years.

Not sure about that only because this is quite big compared to the VW Bluesport and Audi E-tron Spyder/Coupe concepts which the 550 is supposedly sharing same platforms with. Either 550 or boxster, I'm not digging it. Way over designed and will not age good.
