You guys are smoking crack if you think the Spyder will go from 375 to 430hp... up 55hp? I bet you that we see a very minor bump... more like 390-400hp.
Porsche has already stated that going forward the Cayman and Boxster will have the exact same figures between Base, S and GTS. No more Cayman having the minor hp bump over the Boxster. Not sure if they will do the same for Spyder and GT4???

donovan, the point was if the 982 gts is a 375hp turbo 4, then a even a 400hp 9A1 3.8L will be slower because of the turbo's midrange torque superiority.

i also read that the 981.2 turbo 6 wont fit in the 982 engine bay,
so what options would PAG for the 982 spyder - IF THERE IS ONE? btw, BIG IF, in my mind.

IMHO people and journalist are over optimistic about the Boxster GTS. The GTS has always been a minor hp bump... never a separate engine. It won't get the rumored 6 cylinder that journalist are stating. The 981.1 GTS was just a 15 hp jump and I wouldn't expect anything different. My guess is the following for the 982/718:

-718 Boxster/Cayman = 300hp Turbo 4 cylinder
-718 Boxster/Cayman S = 350hp Turbo 4 cylinder
-718 Boxster/Cayman GTS = 365-370hp Turbo 4 cylinder
-718 Boxster Spyder / GT4 = 395-400hp NA 6 cylinder

-911 Carrera = 370hp Turbo 6 cylinder
-911 Carrera S = 420hp Turbo 6 cylinder

981 lasted 4 model years and typically refreshes like the 982/718 are shorter lifespan.

I agree with you regarding the GTS. As it is, the 718S outperforms the 991.2 cabrio and is within a tenth of a second of the 991.2 S Cabrio. That is closest Porsche has allowed the Boxster/Cayman line to get to the 911. A GTS with anything more than a modest bump would be outperforming the S Cabrio which is something Porsche will likely avoid.

With that said, I think it is still is very much up in the air whether the next Spyder will get a dedicated NA Motorsport engine from the GT4 or just a further bumped up turbo 4.

If the GT4,GT3 and GT3RS share the same basic 3.8L NA engine platform (configured differently to correlate with the various output levels of each car as they do now), then the non Motorsport Spyder could very well end up with a turbo 4. Porsche could double down on its 718 4 cylinder marketing with a hot setup lightweight turbo 4 718 Spyder.

THIS

No reason why they wouldn't drop in a standard 6 in the next Spyder like it has now but with a 10 -15 HP bump.

For those interested, a 987 Spyder is on Autotrader for $71,800. The car has 4,100 miles. And the car's original MSRP was $67,675. This is the first time in a long time that a 987 Spyder is going for over MSRP.

I do think the price is just wishful thinking. Although, we are in the beginning of the convertible season, and you don't get, if you don't ask. If I was selling mine, I'd probably shoot for the moon too. A $70g 987 is still awesome value compare to a $100g 981....I'd be interested to see if we'll see other higher asking prices due to this listing.

The car is black on black, has xenon, chrono, stick shift and buckets. No PSE.

I've seen this car and know it can be bought for less. Needs a good detail and a redo of the clearbra, but it's a nice car, and the miles can't be beat!

I think Porsche has tested the market with the 981 Spyder and GT4 in terms of price and demand. I would not be surprised to see a detuned GT3 engine in the 981.2 Spyder or GT4 and a commensurate price bump

Doubt that. The .2 GT4 and Spyder would not be allowed to trump the 911.2s. So they would have to have less than 420 hp.
