Spyder Depreciation

I would be surprised if they didn't come out with a new one on the last year of production of the 981.2 to help boost sales before the change over to the new model.
There was debate if a new Spyder would come out after the 987.2 since so many complained about the top and minimalist approach and lost sight of what the car was about. Porsche changed their approach with the new Spyder with less focus on weight reduction and more focus on performance which has worked out in their favor. The new Spyder has been well received by publications and owners alike so why wouldn't they make another?

It would be easy to make it 400 HP with a factory tune with the turbo 4. With Spyder cosmetics plus a 10 mm drop stiffer springs, change the feel of the steering.

Changeover to the new model - are you referring to the 718? As for a possibility of a new Spyder. I believe not, for two reasons. One, to keep it very exclusive, which they've successfully done. And second, producing a new Spyder as configured or similarly configured would position it too close to the 991. I think you won't see it, but if you do, I'd be very surprised to see a 3.8L 375HP NA engine. Especially, while downsizing and turbocharging the engines in not only Boxsters but 911s.
As far as exclusivity, I think the fact that they are only building them for one year in small quantities will naturally keep them exclusive.
Keep in mind that when the 987.2 Spyder was built Porsche specifically stated that the new Spyder was going to be a standard production model going forward, not a limited edition model. So far they have held to that announcement so it would make sense that a new one will arrive in a few years.

Andreas Preuninger was quoted at least once saying the GT cars would remain NA including Spyder...of course things change. If the GT3 remains NA there is a chance that the GT4 will get a detuned GT3 engine. If the GT4 gets a NA engine there is a chance the Spyder will get a NA engine. Lots of ifs.

Anyone who wants to pay $95-100K for a 4 cylinder turbo Spyder can be my guest. I simply wouldn't do it. I very nearly bought an F-type V6 but after driving it, just couldn't pull the trigger. Interesting how there are no rumblings of Jaguar doing this with the engines in their F-types. But, who knows - 4 cyls could be coming to their cars, too.

we know that turbo-6 won't fit in 982, so to me a 400hp 3.8L is a no brainer, if PAG does a 982 spyder at all.

i don't understand why it couldn't be a NA 400hp 3.8L. the 982 gts had been speculated to be a 375hp turbo-4. so a 400hp 3.8L would fit the 982 model range perfectly and maintain the 911-ness of the spyder.

that would be worth trading the current GT4 or Spyder for.... 8500 rpm and a more linear power curve near the top is the only thing keeping the GT4 and Spyder from being lifetime keepers for me

Or maybe we can get close with Fabspeed exhaust/200 cell cats/ and IPD plenum/82mm throttle body (several other vendors have similar products as well).

a 430-hp 3.8l with a shorter gearbox would def do the trick! i'd be all-in on that.

From a marketing angle it makes more sense to put the new 911 turbo six in the next Spyder. The Spyder does not come from their GT program but it seems to be a final production run of the Boxter prior to the next update. If I'm correct that would put it at about 400hp. Typical Porsche evolution. The Spyder seems to be a culmination of the best parts of the Boxter with 911 enhancements.
