Spyder allocations are getting scarce...would you pull the trigger for 3% off?
#31
Ok, buying a car shouldn't be this hard. Here's what you do, step by step:
"Hello, I am interested in a Spyder, do you have a modify-able unit for sale?"
"Here is my configuration. I will purchase the car if you can take $XXX off MSRP?" If no, the dealer will tell you their offer. Counter offer if you wish, but don't nickel and dime, you are rich, for crying out loud.
Buy the darn car.
YES, is that simple.
Sales people will always take the path of least resistance. Make it easy for them to sell, and they will make it easy for you to buy. Believe it or not, if you do this, chances of them playing games is nill. And if they are playing games, so are you, re-evaluate your expectations and attitude.
I know car sales. And I know car sales people. Now go do it and enjoy.

I did the same thing when I bought my Speed3.
Best approach to car buying is do your homework up front and establish what you're willing to pay. State it up front so the dealer knows if they can meet it or not. Obviously the offer should be reasonable for both parties, after all a dealer is in the business to make money.

Before reading this did just that, all via email. I just stated to have my business I need the following: this configuration, 2.5%, the pro forma build sheet, and regular (every 3 weeks or so) progress updates from the internal system. 30 minutes later, I have a build in place. Super jazzed

I ordered mine at launch assuming I had to pay MSRP due to it being new and limited allocations. When it arrived my dealer (Sunset Imports) automatically gave me 3% off MSRP... I was quite happy

Placing my order tomorrow on Spyder with dealer stating changeable configuration is possible on his July build, Sep delivery. So far, I have not asked for discount. Should I? The car is 400 miles away and they are going to reimburse 650 for flight to car, transport, or just chop it off the bottom line. Otherwise, it is MSRP. Thoughts?

They can afford to screw me over, but I'm not sure what they're thinking when they screw people who are buying as many cars and referring multiple customers as you are.
Got an email from Perry who is heading back from vacation tomorrow. Hopefully we will get something worked out.

he wants to sell me RS. i will buy at MSRP. but that's not what they will do.
however, he said he will work hard for you to get the spyder.
and if you should decide to finance, ask for their buy rate. however, usually BofA is still lower than PFS' buy rate. but you are probably better at counting money than i.

Are you looking to buy a spyder from Stead? I'm looking online and they have 2 spyders in their inventory. I'm livid right now because those are 2 allocations that I could have custom ordered to my spec last November, but they convinced me they were not getting anymore allocations. Being a gullible first time Porsche buyer I believed them and bought what they had on the lot. Stupid me, but when it comes time to get my GT3, I'm going elsewhere.

They want over msrp for the RS?
Yes, we talked about numbers and aren't close at this point, so we will see what they come up with tomorrow.
Didn't know B of A had a competitive rate. Hopefully the pfs rate that was available a couple of moths ago is still around. Otherwise, will probably go with Pentagon, although I'd rather lease.
Orthojoe, yes this is one of the two Spyders that show up on the Stead website.

Penfed rates were lower than anything I saw when I purchased my Spyder although my local credit union matched the rate so I went with them.
Good luck Dave and let us know if you pull the trigger.
