Looking to buy a 987 - quick question
Hi all -
I'm considering buying an auto transmission 2008 Boxster for my wife.
Any quick bits of advice?
I was wondering if someone can explain the nature of the air-bag on/off for the passenger seat? Any difference with that between S and non-S cars?
Thanks for any help.

Air bags identical on base and S. Airbag off capability is a dealer installed option (part of child safety seat stuff. Personally, if I had to get an automatic, I would wait for a 2009 with the new PDK transmission. The motor should be more durable without IMS issues and the tranny will be a lot more fun.

As for the passanger air bags, in the USA, the 2005 Boxster 987 did NOT have smart air bags. This started with the 2006 MY. If the object in the passanger weights less (about) than 90-100 pounds, the air bag turns off. You will see the warning light in the center con.
It is pretty sensitive. If I just have my computer bag on the seat, the air bags turn off.

She knows how ... kinda ... and I have tried to teach her more ... but she's very busy and tired by the time she gets to drive in something other than the Suburban kid hauler ... so she doesn't want to think about driving when she gets in. She's most fearful of hills and rolling backwards ... or just stalling in general since when driving a Riviera Blue cab ... EVERYONE is pretty much gawking at you. I've taught her hills, and she can get through it ... she's just still nervous. I've even suggested to get her out to a DE and let someone else teach her ... she's ain't really biting though ...
Thanks for the info re the airbags.

If PDK is as crisp as the VW's DSG then it's a no brainer, keep the family happy and get the PDK. My DSG is so nice, I can't believe the vast improvement over the tiptronic, that vw and porsche used before, which was just as slushy as a buick's transmission....you can still get a thrill factor driving my dsg, and you don't have to worry about error, (oh, never) since it has the "automatic" protection features, not exactly which ones, but I can drive my VW R32 hard and not have to worry about missing a shift....the only thing I don't love is that the paddle shifter is on the steering wheel itself, so when you turn the wheel and if you change hand position a bit, you have to remember to find the shifter again, asap, if you need to you can just reach down and use the stick shifter for that shift.....I bought my car a stick once, taught her how to drive it, and she never drove it after that...just do what she wants. You have enough toys. That blue, is one of those colors that I don't like at first, but I learn to love it. Adopt me.
