Drove one.

It drives significantly differently than an equally equipped 'regular' 987S Boxster. I know, I had a 3.4L 987S equipped with PASM and SC. Not sure *why* it drives so differently. Talked to the shop guys. We both noted that the 987S dyno plots in the manual have a torque "dip" around 3500rpm. I always thought of it as the Boxster detune-- kind of a way to convince you that you should have gotten the 911. I don't feel that acceleration lull in the RS60.

To the above "crazy" poster who has a GT3 and an RS60, I am about to join you in insanity: a Turbo and an RS60.

To TMC - insanity really is a wonderful thing! Good luck with your two cars. I have owned a couple of Turbos and you will enjoy the torque curve very much. However, I hope you have better luck with maintenance issues than I did. Repairs on any Porsche are not for the faint of heart, but I found them exceedingly so on turbos (but still no where near as bad as F cars!!!!).

My RS 60 has been pulled into production and I will have to put up with "just" driving the GT-3 for a couple more months! I did change from having a red top with red interior to having a black top with red interior. I did not know that combination was available, but it is!

Take care everyone!

Mark

What is different about the RS60 exhaust? Is this the PSE option or something different?

AFAIK, it's just a normal Tequipment/Sport Exhaust. They've been marketing the tips as 'GT3 style', which I don't entirely understand as the only similarities I see between the two are that they're both round and pop out at the back of the car.

I've not seen a 987 Tequipment/Sport Exhaust, but the tips on the RS60s are Brushed.

The sound is intoxicating. Very- Un Boxsterish. Sounds closer to a GT3. Sorta.

So does this mean the engine has been tuned differently ... more than just a different exhaust? Or is it due to a different exhaust that is now available as an option? What I'd like to know is if the different sound will be specific to the RS60-only, or if it's a Techquipment option that anyone can purchase (i.e. any 987 owner).

Ditto. I'd like to know, too. The exhaust note on the Boxster is one of the shortcomings I've learned to accept. Don't get me wrong. I don't think the exhaust note is "bad". It just sounds a lot less sporty than my C4S with sport exhaust. If there is something out there that will make my 987S sound like my C4S, I'd like to know about it.

I brought my 550 Anniv. Boxster S in for my annual service and picked it up yesterday. They had an RS with a SOLD sticker on it but at least I got to see it. I must say if my car was a few years older and had a few more miles, I'd be very tempted.

Well, actually I AM tempted but can't see giving up my car just yet.

Very VERY nice looking not to mention the 303 HP. All in all, the most perfect Boxster S yet. I just wonder what the next model due out as a 2010 model will have to offer...

I stopped at the Porsche dealer yesterday after having my M5 serviced at BMW next door. I was chatting with one of the sales guys I know and told him I heard from people that the sound of the RS60 was different than other Boxsters. So I quizzed him and another fellow about it, and they weren't sure but think that some slight tuning in the engine could be responsible but that it's mostly the exhaust. They had 2 of them and fired one up for me. It did sound nice and reminded me of a 911, something I can't say for my Dad's 986S. My Dad always tells me he's disappointed his Boxster doesn't sound like my 993 did!

It's more than exhaust that's going on.

In any regard, tmc is the happy owner of a new RS60 perfectly spec'd to be just what tmc needs for a second car to complement his 911 turbo.

(At least that's the story that tmc is telling his wife...)

All grins from here in folks...

I do not know what they did to make this such a screamer, but dang, at some point... who cares??
