I believe this problem has been solved on the 987 with the increased height of the rear roll bars which make then even with the windscreen.

The 986 required extensions or hardtop (depending on your region's rules).

I'm 6'2" with no problems with the broomstick test with my helmet.

They don't make them for the 987 because the factory bars are taller on the 987 than on the 986. Essentially, there is no room for an extension. The factory roof would hit one when opening and closing.

You may get away with running a hardtop (some regions don't broomstick when hardtops are present.

Other than that, you will need different seats, mounted lower in your car, to give you the necessary headroom.

Great info, can anyone comment on the use of wheel spacers and track days? Is this a good idea, just saw a nice set of 911 wheels...however spacer is required for the rear of course.

There is nothing wrong with running a reasonable thickness spacer to get your wheels to fit. For track use I would caution no thicker than 15mm, and make sure that you run the longer wheel bolts. If you need more than that, get the right wheels for your car.

I run 996 Turbo hollow spokes with 14mm spacers and longer bolts in the rear. I have not had any issues whatsoever.
