Is the wind deflector worthwhile on a 987?

Just received my 2006 Boxster S and am now contemplating buying the wind deflector.

There doesn't seem to be that much turbulence in the cabin with the windows up, but I suppose that will change at freeway speeds.

Is it worth the $400 for the OEM deflector?

YES
If nothing else, it makes a great spot to add a PORSCHE logo!
It will help control the swirling winds at higher speeds.

Is there any place on-line to buy discounted OEM accessories like the wind blocker?

My guess? Probably not. There were a number of changes from '04 t0 '05 on and not sure if the part is interchangeable. Try checking with dealership for part crossreferencing first.
I'd not be without it on mine. It makes driving with top down a real pleasant experience. Just for kicks, I took it out...wow, it does wonders, imho.

I don’t like the Plexiglas piece and never use it. The hardware mounted to the roll bar for the Plexiglas is also a drag. Turbulence? It’s a convertible enjoy the breeze. However, I do love the look of the black grills behind the seat and would not do without them. They tend to break up the silhouette of the roll bar and make it less noticeable. So if you don’t mind a little turbulence find a set of grills and do without the Plexiglas.

I enjoy the feeling of the wind (and hearing the engine, feeling the road imperfections, receiving feedback in the steering and pedals, etc)...enjoy your sports car as a sports car!

(Besides, the $400 can be better put towards a racing helmet!)

Enjoy!

Yes. And, no. My opinion: It's a convertible, for crying out loud. Your hair is supposed to blow in the wind. My wife's opinion: Get it or no car. Needless to say, the car has it :). It does allow conversation with the windows up at highway speeds. It also comes with a covered cubby hole in between the seats. Expensive covered cubby hole.

Thanks for the feedback.

I ordered one and figured I can always take out the plexiglass piece when it's nice and warm.

Since I also have heated seats, I'm hoping the blocker will extend my top-down motoring time.

we had a pretty mild winter here in the N.E.
top was down most of the time, even in low 30s.. seats on/windows up/windblocker in place/max heat, and a hat ;)
no problem!
imo, the car looks better without it (and also with windows down) but it's a good thing in chilly weather and like Palting said, keeps the wife happy :)

Cheers!
