Thanks very much for sharing that.

I just read all 22 pages and learned a great deal.

I suppose all that was shared could be applied to the 987??

Logic says yes - so long as you have PCM2.1 Mod B Hardware + Software. I don't think the PCM unit cares what car it is in (maybe)

I think the only difference could be with the antenna on the 987...

But even if that proves to be the case, I'm sure there would be a work-around.

I just bought a new 987S with PCM, so I think I'd be in good shape. Still, I might let a couple of others go first before I take the plunge.

Thanks again for sharing this... I suppose I need to spend more time on the other forums because there is lots of useful information that isn't necessarily model-specific.

From what I've read on the 997 boards, the ant is from a 955, so that won't even matter.

Regardless, the cost seems to be rather prohibitive, I believe I've read $2k for a completed install. That is an aweful lot for sat radio.

I'm putting a Sirius unit in my 987S in about a week when the parts come in. I'll share the details when its done.

FYI - I just upgraded my software to 2.1B yesterday. I have an April '05 build without MP3 capabilities and a CD changer.

Correct.

True, you could install a SAT receiver and simply use an FM transmitter/modulator for much less cost; the OEM parts solution does provide for full integration with steering wheel controls....and will look/act/feel identical to the 'no date scheduled yet' ordering option for 987 and 997.

Default Been there, done that

When I first picked up my Cayman S with PCM, I had the XM Commander installed with an FM modulator. Looked good but sounded awful and you lose AM when it is on. Had that removed and the Cayenne factory kit installed (Approx $1400 installed by Porsche dealer) and it works beautifully and sounds infinitely better. If you are addicted to SAT radio (guilty as charged), it is definitely worth going the factory route.
