Default OPC wants to re-use oil!!

My car is booked in for a modified Oil Valve and parts for the 2100rpm rattle.

The technician said the oil will be drained and re-used. Surely this is crazy as there is no way contaminants can be kept out?

Never heard of such a thing. Are these the same guys who sold you the car, and can't fix your roof? I have serious doubts with these people. If they sold you the car, I also have serious doubts about the integrity of the roof before they sold it to you. I would suggest getting in touch with another Porsche service, at least to give the roof their opinion, and certainly to chage the oil.

Ludicrous. Do they then bill Porsche for fresh oil under warranty and pocket the cash? Ask them if they would honor the warranty if you changed your own oil and then reused it. Maybe there's a part number for a cheesecloth oil strainer that we don't know about .

What happened with your first car? Same dealer?

Actually, I think this is standard operating procedure. I've seen it in the Porsche manuals somewhere. Unless the car is in for service to get the oil changed (or is contaminated by the failure/fault), it gets reused--same with antifreeze, etc. You could probably pay the dealer for the extra oil or BYO. While Porsche could be just a bunch of cheapskates, they could be doing it to be environmentally friendly.

Norsk,
What color is your car?

.. or to make a play on your words, they ARE a bunch of cheapskates BUT they are claiming they are being environmentally friendly.

While conceptually it makes sense, this has the words "Idea born from a German Engineer" written all over it, because technically it works.

Me like. Kinda reminds me of Arena Red metallic Will have to do an A/B comparison one day. I seem to recall it being a hair darker and have more brown/cinnamon tones. Thanks!

OK, I think I figured it out.
That's why there's no dipstick on the 987!
My dealer uses drain oil from Audi's and MB's in my Boxster

Car was first replaced because of many faults and very poor dealer service.

I think I could bring my own but I dont trust them to use it.

The roof has been in 4 times for bad clicks/rattles behind the passenger and drivers headrest, the velcro in the roof bars coming off and the rear plastic retaining bar coming off when the roof returns to the upright position!! Oh and 2100 rattle!!

Do you have a service bulletin number for the 2100 rpm rattle?

If you're planning on keeping the car, I would want fresh oil put in. Did the top have issues from Day 1? Or did it start after opening or closing while the car was moving? I am very leery of doing that, as I have seen bad things happen in other softtops.

Maybe you have an alternate dealership or independent you could try, as it has to be getting a little tense going back to the same shop, and on car #2

FWIW I would be more worried about the Bose subwoofer coming loose than opening/closing the softtop while moving.

Case in point, mine came loose and impacted the top while it was closing, breaking some bracket preventing further operation of the top. I've noticed the subwoofer comes loose every time you go over less than perfectly smooth road, which is pretty much everywhere. The retaining latch works itself unlatched.

Not sure what the bulletin is but I'm valling Porsche GB to find out if they should re-use oil!

Dealer informed me they would do this in my GT3 when it was about 1 month old. (It developed a leak - warranty repair). I just paid for new oil.
