Default Vertex HID updgrade

Installed Vertex HID updgrade on a 997 S today. Took approximately 45 minutes for both. Required a slight deviation from the 996/986 instructions. I am extremely please.Looks like stock litronics at a fraction of the costs with a kelvin rating of 12000 which puts out far more light then my stock BMW HID.

OK. I looked up the typical Philips D2S/D2R bulbs, and they are 4100K/4000K. Standard halogens are around 3400K while yellow "fog" lights are around 2500K.

So, what's the story with aftermarket HID bulbs? I see these 5000K, 6000K, 8000K, and now (above) 12000K? Are these ultraviolet black light bulbs? I had some "fakey" 4500K blue bulbs in mine for about 10 minutes. They drove me crazy. It was like I was wearing blue sunglasses--terrible color rendering. I pulled them right out and sold them on fleaBay (presumably to a ricer).

Am I missing something?

Yes you are. If you notice the fellow that posted only has one post to his credentials. He has a dummy screen name trying to pump up another company through "INGENIOUS" methods.

Besides what CameronD already covered, here's a useful site re: HID info.

Automotive Lighting FAQ

In general, the higher the color temp, the lower the light output in lumens. Not good, if you're interested in seeing better at night, as opposed to looking like a ricer.

BTW, the HIDs on this '06 are great. Love the biaxial aspect, the hi-beams really, really light up the world. One of the two things that were "must have" for me on the upgrade from our '01, which had the base halogen lights.

The posts which followed my original post proves that solely because on has enought moneydosen't mean that they cannot be ignorant. I do not work for Vertex nor have any affiliation with them. I live in Chlt NC and are well known by the folks at Hendrick Porsche. I have had just about every vehicle made. I just purchased a 987S from Hendrick

The information given to you about lights are incorrect. a true HID is a specifically bulb that has a ballast that sparks which illuminates the XENON gas without a flliament. Then there are bulbs that have a blue tint which flter the light.

The Vertex kits like many other kits offered is a true XENON bulb which use a transformer needed to spark the bulb. If you look at a 996/986 litronic upgrade kit they have one transformer per side.

As for the "K" value has to do with the color of the light. Sunlight is at the high end of the color spectrum. Whoever the idiot was who spoke at of both sides of his about how great Porsche litronic is but "puts out less light" should check his posts before consistency before he throws stones at others.

It is true the a True White light puts out the best light but this is truly an illusion as a result of the color being light as opposed too halogen yellow at XENON with a higher "K". The reason why all stock bulbs are "WHITE" is because of European and U.S. safety standards.

For those idiots who cant understand this post, just get behind a SUV with true XENONS and compare the amount you are blinded vs. halogen bulbs.

Before you criticize and jump to conclusions you should ask questions not criticized. For those that are interest on this MOD leave me a message and I will send pictures unless you have already criticized in which case your SOL!
