Will a 986 spare tire fit on a 987? Has anyone tried this? I would assume it does, unless the bolt patterns are different or the brakes get in the way.
I would guess the spare would fit in the front unless the front compartment configuration has been changed in some way.

I would consider a new boxster in the future, but can't stand not having a spare. A can of fix-a-flat wont do me any good if the tire gets torn or has a large puncture. And what good is road side service going to do? Do they come out and just tow it or do they have a spare for you to use?

The front 986 trunk did changed when the 987 came out, so a 986 spare will not go in as it did in the past.

I recently bought an 07 Cayman S and I see 17" spares with jacks for a not so outrageous price. Will a 17" Porsche spare clear the front calipers of a 987?

Update. I have a boxster spare and jack in my frunk. to keep it from bouncing around I also have my toolbox in front of it, and another case on top of it that is a perfect wedge.

I haven't had need to use it (and plan never to..) but my '09 Boxster came with one (has the whole kit like the Suncoast one, jack, etc,) It fits in the Frunk - just. Haven't tried it on a wheel yet.

Yes. It will also fit in 997 - 2WD only, 991- 2WD only and 981 frunk. The front transaxle of the 4S reduces frunk space so will not fit. See attached. Note tie down and lightweight aluminum 1.5 T floor jack.

When you get a chance, please post a few more pictures of how you tied it down. I have the jack that fits in the spare. I didn't like the jack bouncing around. I recommend it for non track days.

Here it is. Used nylon endless loops and Harbor Freight ratcheting tie downs. It is not real tight....just enough to keep it from hitting and denting my frunk hood during an emergency stop. I also have the lightweight jack below tire now. I have the manual scissor jack which sits inside the spare also. I have hand fitted the spare to my 997.2S and 981S to make certain it clears rotors. Still need to check clearance on front of 991.1 and 991.1S as Porsche went to larger front rotors on the 991.1S, I think.

FYI - Porsche says this should spare should be used only on front tire. So, if you have a flat on rear, you have to change two tires. You move a front to the rear and p,ace spare on front. Advice I hope neither of us must ever use!

There are a few threads on Rennlist about the spares already. From what I've read, there are really two different spare solutions: The 986 and the 996. The 986 uses an inflated spare and the 996 uses a collapsing tire that needs to be inflated. I suspect you may have more room using the collapsing tire.
You should also skip the prepacked kit and just make your own from a vendor like Sunset that actually shows part numbers to the public for a lot less $.
