Could not wait any longer so I gave up
Car was supposed to be here last week before Xmas. Dealer called to tell me that the car has just been sent to port and should be another 3 weeks.
So decided to take the plunge and got a 06 997S (atlas Grey/black) with Sports Chrono and few more goodies. Same dealer gave me 6K off MSRP. Picking it up this Saturday.
Now My mind is playing tricks on me and making me regret not waiting for the 987S....someone tell me I made a mistake! Or not!
At least I stayed in the same family

If it's any consolation, you'd probably also have some cognitive dissonance to deal with if you had decided to wait for the 987S. When choosing between two options that are almost equally attractive, cognitive dissonance begins to stir once a choice has been made. It's called "post-decisional dissonance" and it's very normal. Now is when you should try to get your mind to play tricks, reducing the cognitive dissonance by emphasizing the positive features of the chosen car and the negative features of the rejected car. I'll get you started. You have the flagship 911/997S, which doesn't come with the stigma of the lower priced Boxster. It's faster, and has two rear seats for packages. And you have it now! You take it from there.

Hmm, seems pretty impulsive. After all, three weeks is not a long time to wait. But it also suggests that perhaps you really wanted the 997S, in which case you probably made the right choice. Enjoy.

GOOD CHOICE! I did the same thing - I sold my 2003 996 and did the paperwork for a 987 couldn't wait and got the 997! No regrets! You will always look at a Boxster and tell yourself you are glad you got the 997! Both GREAT cars though!

I still love the 987S but the 997S was a good deal
On top of that it was not a vehicle the dealer had, they had to have it shipped from MA to GA and they did not even make me pay for the shipping of the car. All in all, 6K off + no shipping charge = pretty good deal.
Still would love to add a 987S to the stable tough. Maybe cancel the E90 M3 order and get the 987S in a year or so

Can't see much to regret, save for maybe that first sunny day in the South ....
Enjoy the car. I drove the 997s at the Porsche Driving Exp recently, and was blown away. Break it in nicely, cause I'll trade you for my 987S in a year or two
Atlanta dealers are definitely looking to move cars!
