Default Widest wheels on a 987S?

What is the widest you can go F & R with wheels/tires on a 987S? I have seen up to 10" rears but they had stock size 265s on them. Will the 997S 11" wheels w/ 295 tires fit?

My suggestion is email the good people at Wheelenhancement, they know better than anybody.

Amazing how many people I've heard trading an M3 Cab for a 987-S. So much richer a sports car experience...got me to trade in my 2002 M3 Cab.

I can see fixing the factory offsets, but why do you need wider wheels/tires? The car already pulls close to 1.0 g and holds the fastest time through Road and Track's Slalom course. What are ya trying to achieve?

If you just want to upgrade to 19s, I have a set of OEM Carerra S wheels for sale.

Actually the M3 is a coupe and I kept it. I can't sell that car...ever.

I got the 987S with the 19" carrera S wheels but I was surprised when I found out that they were smaller than the ones on the 997. I was just hoping to increase my grip a bit for spirited drives on mountain roads (with steep drop-offs). Plus I think the wider tires look better...

If you're breaking traction on those mountain roads with the standard 987S wheels and tires, you might just want to slow down a bit, or get some better tires. In my opinion, for public roads there is no need for anything wider than the rear 10's you mentioned, and 265s would be the correct tire fit. Much larger than that, and the extra unsprung rotating weight will slow you down more than the extra grip will speed you up.

I agree with Jim. Aesthetics? Buy some 15 and 7 mm spacers. Handling--I wouldn't mess with the balance with wider tires. The 997 has more weight in the rear and needs the 11" wheel and 295 tire...The 987 is already more than a match for a 997 handling-wise...what would you gain? Make sure you have PS2s for dry cornering...

Champion makes a 10" rear rim, and I'm sure you can custom fit an 11" back there if you're intent on it. Or you can mount 275/245 tires on your current wheels. That's a lot of tire for this car.

Have fun.

BTW, I was referring to TMCs post about his M3Cab. I never bonded with my e46 m3...great sedan, kinda numb sportscar.

Chris,

What sizes are your Champion wheels? Stock sizes?

Yes, 8/9.5 running OEM tires/sizes. The grip and balance is impressive...I didn't want to mess with the neutral feel it has now...that's why I bought this car and not a 997! Perfectly tossable, no understeer...point and it goes.

The other challenge is weight--11" wide wheels and tires will add 6-8 lbs per axle...I wanted the opposite.

The Champions widen the track by 11 mm in front and 16 in the rear, though, by moving the offsets to 46 and 30 mm respectively. For $200 you can by H&R spacers to do the same though.

Chris,
Any tips on where and how much for the rims? Thanks, also what are my new take-off 19" Carrera S wheels & tires (Conti sport 2s) worth fair price in your opinion?

If you mean Champions, wheel enhancement or Brandywine Porsche are good sources. With tires, they're pricey at about $5K, but worth it.

19" Carrera S wheels with tires should bring $2500-2700 on Ebay or equiv.

To answer your question I'm guessing that they will be close the the Cayman S wheels,--8.5 F, 10 R.

Yes, Champion has a 10" wheel for the rears, RS98.
