Default Homelink - retrofit to 986?

I read somewhere that the 987 Boxsters have Homelink, which incorporates a garage door remote into the car. Does anyone know if it's possible to add this to a 986? Also, where is the Homelink push button located?

I have it on one of my other cars and it's incorporated into the visor. I like not having to keep a separate remote loose in the car.

Thanks,
Charlie

The homelink on the 987 is not on the visor. It's on the headlining, or between the visors. I suppose with some ingenuity it can be retrofitted. Not as easy as just replacing a visor.

We discussed this subject on renntech.org

As you can see the buttons for homelink are were the ovals were for the interior motion detector. The IF sensor is now radar based so the ovals are not needed for the interior motion detector. The top latch housing for the buttons/ovals are identical as it still has a 986 part number so there is no reason you could not put the buttons in. But there goes your interior motion detector if you try to do a retrofit.

I was not paying great attention to the thread. I looked up the part numbers and think they were the same for a 997. I think someone got prices for a retrofit and it was high.

There are many other options. Mine is in a targa roof tip switch in my front center console, wired to the fuse panel and up through the firewall to the battery compartment, where my 12v opener is soldered in the 'on' position. The targa switch allows for two openers. Very easy mod.

Thanks for the info. I'd like to get the functionality of Homelink without giving up my interior motion detector. I'll check out the links at Renntech.

I like Eric's idea too. I can just buy another 12v remote and figure out a neat way to trigger it.
