Well Mike,
No flame from here. The coupe may very well be the next big purchase car for me so, yeah, a part of me would long for the lowest possible price. But the realist in me agrees with a lot of what you said.
On another note, I'm not sure if we will realize the same sort of weight savings that are nomally seen when comparing coupes to cabrios. The reason I suggest this, is in almost every other case I can think of, the coupe was designed first, and then the cabrio was develloped which normally included extra sheet metal to strengthen the tub to counter the effect of the lost roof. In this case, the tub has already been designed for no roof, so unless Porsche engineers away some of the existing sheet metal, there will only be a marginal weight difference. That's my thought anyway...
Thanks!

I don't know what bearing it has on this discussion. But in 2002 the BMW Z3 Coupe was 33# heavier than the Roadster. On the M side of the fence they were equal. At least according to edmunds.com. I went looking for verification on bmw.com but could not find past model information.
Not that Porsche will do the same thing, but there's an example of a Roadster design being adapted for Coupe duty.

Whether he's reconsidered that position may determine if we'll even see a Boxster coupe (let alone a Club Sport)?

FYI....they (BMW) did not make a Z3 coupe. They made a M Coupe and M Roadster. It is not a Z3. The styling is based on the Z3 but it is badged and created in the M line not the Z line.

Actually, they did have a Z3 version of the Coupe. It came out the same year as M Roadster and M Coupe, in 1999. In '99 and '00 you could only get it with the 193hp 2.8L, and in '01 only the 225hp 3.0L. The Coupe only came with the M sport suspension (and other M stuff) so it had M badging on the steering wheel and in other places. But was NOT an M as it was missing the M's 3.2L engine and other distinctive M parts (i.e. chrome side air vents).

Nice catch. Thanks for the clarification. I have a buddy who owns a M Coupe and hates it when people call it a Z3 M Coupe. I'll jot this down for the next time I see him.

Most current news, articles, and pics at www.porscheboxster.info. Hard to tell what is true and what is speculation, so take it for what you will.

youd think someone could get better pics of the roof line. Some of the pics/drawings make it look terrible, and what about the Direct injection 4? better have a turbo.
Does anyone know if its really going to be previewed at the detroit auto show?

My Porsche sales rep says $39,995....
for a base Coupe. It makes sense. And it sounds sooooo much better than; starting at $40,850 or $41,200 that still leaves it well ahead of the 350z's and the like. The cool thing to me is in about 4years when I sell my 04 the coupe will no doubt be bigger and badder than in 05................................can't wait

would be nice, however i just called my dealer today, and PCNA yesterday, both said Porsche isnt saying jack squat.
I mean it would be nice, since hard tops usually go for less than convertables, but then porsche might think that they CAN sell it for MORE.
