Still looking for a manual Cayman and I think I found one that I like. It's a 2016 Black Edition with CPO. Mileage is 12,xxx and dealership is asking $51,8xx for it. Build sheet is attached. I really like the PTV, X73 and Sport Design package on this car but they are not necessary, just nice to have. What I really wish it had is PSE but I guess I can just have that added after the fact. What would be a reasonable offer for the car? I was thinking start at $48k or is that too low?

I like the simplicity of the build. You can easily get a good aftermarket exhaust or add the PSE if adjustability is a must have.

CPO is worth a couple thousand. You are getting a 4 year old car with low mileage at 30% off list. Dealer is probably making about $10k. So yes, start at $47-48k.

I'm just a little out of touch with the market right now (stopped monitoring after I bought mine ~6 weeks ago).

The 981 market has cratered a little bit and keep in mind this is essentially a Used Base Cayman.
Don't give the "Black Edition" package too much worth. Consider it a "Used Black Edition" (its slightly less Black. )
Any options come with a severe discount (0% - 15%).

Agreed, CPO is worth a couple/few thousand (depending on the remaining term of the Warranty).. push that aside and drill down on the base price, then add it back in later.

Always consider this pricing vector: "For just a little bit more $$ I could get a CaymanS or GTS".
There should be a significant gap in these prices.. not bunched up tightly together.

From my experience, the performance of the Base Cayman is just fine. It's how you drive it.
You can add bigger front brakes and sport exhaust as needed.

Always consider the time on the market vector: How long has it been up for sale? How long has it been on this dealer lot?

In general, the car market is in a bad state right now and Sports cars are T.H.E. WORST.
SUV's and Trucks are far and away THE MAJOR sellers.

Without researching all the details for this particular car.. if the dealer is asking $51K, I would trend towards an end price of ~$45K +/- as a place to settle.

GLWP!

Don’t let PSE be a dealbreaker. It’s totally a NTH. I don’t have it and personally never want it. Like hearing the mechanical bits as well as exhaust. Not just the exhaust.

The Porsche market is nuts at the moment. Especially on manual cars. The base cars don't have DFI and have more character than the DFI engines (hate me if you will). Good cars don't sit. If you like it and its within reason just get it. a couple grand won't matter when your driving and you'll regret it if this is a car you love.

Slight additional clarification:

987.2 2.9L base cars don't have DFI but all 981 do including the base 2.7L.

I did not know!

My definitely makes more power than a friend's 987.2 base but his engine is just so sweet and revs out so well. His also lacks the dip when the car comes on cam. I eliminated that dip with FVD tune but stock for stock the base is a really sweet and balanced engine.

Thanks everyone, ! I will take a look at the car today and see where it goes. I think I will try to be in the high 40s for this one (48k?), even though I like everything about the car, most of the options that are on it are just nice to have for me.

the msrp would be ab out 5 grand more if it wasn't a black edition. if 275hp is good for you and the car checks out the asking price isn't out of line if it is cpo

Just thirteen months ago I purchased a very similarly optioned Cayman base, 2015, with 22K on the odometer. I managed to negotiate a bit on the price, but didn't make a really low ball offer. There was no way I was letting that car get away so I just wrote a number down and it worked. As a percentage of my car's list vs. what I paid, 48K is probably an equivalent deal. I'm not sure what our mileage differences matter. It might be worth noting that with CPO, you may not be able to skip some of the recommended service intervals. Being a 2016, check the manufacture date and in-service date, Ask when the 4 yr/40000K service interval will show up. That 4 year will come up in your first year of ownership and will cost $1500-2000 at a dealer.

Hey I am not sure if you are looking for a newer 718 but if you are I traded mine and it is still available at the dealership. I only drove 3500 miles and it is a 2018 Cayman 718 . No issues at all, love that car but I traded it with a 991.2 Carrera. The dealers website is PlatinumVv.com. Check it out.

Going to hijack this thread with a similar question if OP doesn't mind. I'm in the market for a manual base 981 and am considering two options, both with almost identical builds and clean titles/Carfax.

Option 1:
- 2013
- manual
- 51k miles
- Nearby dealer
- $29k even.

Option 2:
- 2013
- manual
- 31k miles
- private party out of state
-$35k

Here is build of option 1. I'm trying to decide if the one with fewer miles is worth the extra cost, especially considering I'd have to ship it from east coast to Colorado. Both are out of warranty, but both look super clean.

Thoughts?
