Default Nice Spyder SOLD on BaT today

Identical to the one I sold last year. It took everything I had not to hit the "bid" button today. Shoulda' woulda' coulda'...

Someone got a very good deal today.

Lots to like here. It's the prime time to sell with warm weather ahead of us and this baby had low miles. Someone got a nice buy IMO.

Still unclear to me why these cars aren't bringing $70K+ all day long, but I've said that 100x before. Call me pollyannish I guess. My opinion is obviously not shared by the market and we know whose is more important!

Fantastic deal. Such low mileage, essentially that of a 6-month old car. Nice options to be able to drive it in any climate.

I agree 100% Nick. There's so much Porsche for the buck in these, nevermind one with 4700 miles on it. Incredible.

I sound like a broken record but the manual top is the only thing that stops me from buying one of these and I'm the ideal (and presumably rare) target buyer that fully appreciates everything else about them. They're the 996 GT3s of the Boxsters.

Interesting thing about that price is it's barely a match for a well-equipped 981GTS with similar mileage. The 'purist' shibboleth is great for moving the cars off the dealership floor at a time when they're brand new and backed by a marketing campaign that would make Steve Jobs sit up in his grave and take notes, but it's ultimately one big case study in the greater-fool theory. The value simply isn't there.

When did this stop being a Porsche forum and become a Corvette forum?

Value and Porsche don't belong in the same sentence, these cars are about passion and engineering excellence. Plus as my dad always say, something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it, and if people are wiling to pay for 987.2 Spyders and R's so what? People are paying huge dollars for air cooled cars that would get their ***** kicked by new VW GTI's, so what, they enjoy them (and they are awesome!) so have at it.

I'd much rather have any of the 987.2 cars than the equivalent 981 model, I just like them better, looks, proportions, outward visibility, rawness. To each their own.

To me, not worth 2x 987.2 S or 3x my 987.1 S, both auto-top. Not even close.
For drivers, time will adjust relative pricing accordingly. For collectors, probably less so.

From experience coming from a 2008 TT cab and 2 x 2011 Spyders, I can appreciate the top argument against the Spyder. Sure it takes a bit to put it on but IMO the 981 Spyder and the new Speedster tops are no better and at BIG prices. Living with the 987.,2 Spyder? I think it's the perfect 2nd car. You don't want to drive it every day but listen, again from experience, doff the top and it is such an exceptional car and IMO worth the prices that are holding. Throw the top away! Top be gone! And drive a relatively rare, super sexy, well put together Porsche for non-crazy money. What's better in life than that?

What’s better? All that + auto-top at 1/3 the price.

Our Boxster is our 5th car, only driven for fun, and I still use the auto-top at least 2x per run even on a perfect sunny day. Wife enjoys driving it too, and I like it that she does. No way she would find the manual top dance acceptable. Not sure about BC but we need tops on our cars here in the NE so throwing the top out would not be an option.

Are they really 2X a 987.2 S? I think it would be hard to find a 4,700 mile 987.2 S manual for only $29K... Maybe one with 50K miles on it. There's a red Spyder listed right now for $46K, probably sells for $43K, high miles, so lets just say 50% premium over equivalent S. May or may not be worth it. I personally think the Spyder is one of the best looking cars Porsche ever made, coupled with the rest, it just stands out where the typical Boxster is another face in the crowd, albeit one that drives like a dream.

Boy, am I in the same camp. My top goes up and down several times a day. I'd tear my hair out (if I had any) in frustration if I had to do the top up or down dance that I've seen videos of. A deal breaker it is for me, yes.

They were recently — maybe not anymore as relative prices have adjusted somewhat over the last year or so.
