Default good shift ***** for 987?

One of the things I really don't like about my Cayman is the feel of the shift ****. Crappy-feeling painted plastic on front of **** annoys the hell out of me every 1-2, 3-4, 5-6 shift. wtf Porsche, **** in an '05 Mazda3 feels infinitely better...

I'm looking at aftermarket ***** from BFI, Rennline, Function First, and Raceseng:
https://store.blackforestindustries....weshkns11.html
http://www.rennline.com/Rennline-Alu...o/I14.1/BLACK/
http://www.function-first.com/produc...sic-shift-****
https://www.raceseng.com/products/sh...987-cayman-987

I'm leaning towards the BFI leather.

Any other good options out there I should know about?

I like the Function first and will probably get one at some point but FWIW I am in love with my numeric shifter and cables. More monies but I recommend you start there.

Shifting feel and action also sucks (again, wtf Porsche...) but that is a different, separate issue. FWIW I'm going with updated OEM cables and new GT3 console.

But even if shifting mechanical feel were perfect, the feel of the **** itself is crap, so irrespective of what is done to improve mechanical feel, the factory **** has gots to go, and I am looking for recommendations on alternatives.

Totally agree. Not to digress - but I'd still recommend the numeric cables. The GT3 shifter is "fine" but find both to try if you can. Both are common so likely a local PCA chapter will have both in attendance. Also a FF1 engine mount helps tremendously.

The ***** are totally subjective. Get whatever one you like and smile that they are relatively cheap so there's no sweating getting something else if you don't like. Function first gets my vote. Rennline second.

I'm going to see how it goes with all new OEM setup with the "improved" GT3 console. If I still no like, Numeric ssk will go in. I'll look into the FF1 mounts, thanks

I ordered up the BFI ****. Looking forward to not having to touch the OEM one again :P

I'm interested in your feedback on this ****. From your links I like the BFI and the Raceseng *****. I do notice that Raceseng has the adapters on backorder.

That's comical, 1k for a **** and brake lever. Geez, I don't even think those of us with extra cash would drop that kind of dough for a **** and brake lever.

A decent shift **** should cost a couple hundred at MOST. Seriously, what are you guys willing to pay for such an item?

I've loved every OEM Porsche shift **** the car came with, especially the beautiful billet RS60 shift ****, and the partial alcantara ***** on the my GT4 and 981 Spyder. Then again all 5 manual Porsches I've owned weren't run of the mill. Plus I typically find cosmetic aftermarket products of far less quality unless grossly expensive.

If I bought a car and it had any **** in post #2 the first thing I would do is replace with OEM. Those ***** look like ****. Probably all made in China too. Have never and don't ever plan to put non German parts on a German car.

I bought 2 ***** form Raceseng. Both the ***** and adapter are fantastic quality, and customer service has been great. The Slammer i started with was just too heavy for me. Shifts were nice and smooth but my stock shifter just felt sloppier with it. I then swapped to a Circuit Spere 150 and it's perfect. Shifts are super smooth, the feel is great. I thought I preferred the shorter **** but I was mistaken...the extra leverage makes all the difference.

I ended up changing out all major components: Numeric Racing shifter and cables as well as the Raceseng Prolix shift ****. The NR SSK and cables totally transform the shifting feel. I found the stock shifter very sloppy and the NR set-up addresses that 100% with a very mechanical shift feel (almost like a gated shifter). I then added the Raceseng Prolix shift ****, which is a very high quality. The heavy Prolix (685g) definitely reduces shift effort, but you will lose some of that direct, mechanical connection.

Here's the Rennline version to consider... http://www.rennline.com/Rennline-Alu...uctinfo/I14.1/
