Default 987.2 Bluetooth streaming

It looks like in a few weeks I'll be taking a trip to pick something up. It's a 987.2 with Bluetooth, cdr30 (no PCM), and the universal audio package. I'd like to be able to use Waze for directions and also charge my phone. I understand unlike the 981, there's no way to use my iPhone over USB, correct? What have people been using with 987s?

I just use a AUX cable and a charging cable in my Cayman. It’s not pretty but it works.

I’d love to know what solutions others are using.

The two easy options are the AUX cable as noted already or buying a small Bluetooth transponder and connecting it to your aux port in the armrest storage area. Unfortunately neither address the phone charging so yes you would need to connect the phone to your lighter to charge it, especially when using waze which burns through the battery.

The transponders last about 8 -10 hours with consecutive use so they will also need a charge if it’s a multi day trip.

Thanks. So it looks like I need to bring:

1) Bluetooth transponder
2) Cigarette USB adapter
3) USB cable

Are any of these bluetooth transponders any better than the other? A non-PCM, CDR30/Universal audio connector equipped car will have a 3.5 audio-in jack, a USB, and a 12V in the armrest, right? Can I charge off of the USB?

It will definitely have the Aux connection in the armrest, not sure on the USB as I’ve never used it. .

Here’s what I currently use for the Bluetooth:

.

It works fine and sound quality is decent. I personally would investigate other options to see if you can find one with better battery life so you don’t need to charge it assuming you’re going to have more than 8 hours on the road.

But this is only present if you have PCM/navigation, right? Not cdr30?

Correct. I would be interested in suggestions for connecting the CDR 30 with the universal audio interface.

I connected this to the Bovee not to the iPhone but yes, coming back to the OP, I have seen this but no idea if it works properly (I am just not a big fan, from the picture, of the solution to power the Bluetooth unit)

http://www.discountcarstereo.com/A2D-CDR30.html

PS it looks like that the bluetooth "name" -SKY international- is the same of the aftermarket bluetooth streaming module that I have on the Becker Mexico 7948 on my Morgan, and that works seamless.

Ok that makes sense, those of us with the CD30 only have the AUX connection.

  2. Mine has PCM so Google Maps (and probably Waze, which is my fallback app) announce over the PCM. However, you can plug your phone into the lighter which has lots of power (up to 150 watts) and just use a BT headset. Then you have your music on the car and get directions in your ear. The armrest USB port seems to be low power, enough to charge an iPod connected to the iPod jack, but not enough to support Waze.
