Default Front license plate mount

i have a 2012 Cayman base and need to get it licensed in Oregon. Does anyone know if I can make a bracket that I can screw straight into the center plastic grill piece to mount the base plate for the license plate to instead of drilling the bumper. Making the bracket is the easy part,I just don’t know if I can drill and use self tapping screws without removing any parts. Thanks in advance.

Almost certainly not. There are "bits" behind the bumper cover, like the HomeLink transmitter etc. If you look at a PET for your model, you should be able to find an exploded assembly drawing of the front bumper area. That will give you a detailed view of what is behind where you want to drill.

I'd recommend you google "Porsche front license plate mounts." There are lots of good options there. And no holes in the bumper.

Just get a tow hook licence plate mount. No drilling required.

I don’t really like to have it off center,so I’ll have to figure out if there’s a way to see what’s behind that finned center piece. I don’t have a center radiator. The exploded view doesn’t really show what might be located where behind it.

I have a tow hook plate mount. I am not drilling any holes in my front bumper and you start to care less and less about it being off center the more you drive it.

I also have the tow hook plate mount. Quality build for sure and if you want to run no plate the quick removal takes about one minute.

Can you attach the license plate, or the bracket you make, to the center grill using zip-ties?

I’m looking at those Skene brackets. It looks like you drill up and mount the brackets to the top of the plastic insert in the center radiator recess. My insert is solid so have to drill somewhere to mount it. It should be safe to mount like the Skene bracket is although I think I’ll talk to the dealer first to make sure what is where behind the bumper. Better safe than sorry. I know the Skene one is $50/plus shipping and I can make my own for less than $20. Save the $ for road exploration gas.

The skene holds very well. The bracket is held in place by the tape. The small screw is really for correctly positioning the bracket. I mounted under the lip screw going up. Yes you could make one yourself, just a little metal fabricating which I don't do. Good 3m tape will hold it.

Thanks for the info. I don’t mind having the front license plate,it just looks better mounted lower. And no holes in the bumper cover. We’ve only had the car for a few months and we’ve only seen two other Caymans and a couple Boxters. Kinda rare around here. Hope to get to know some of them this spring and summer.

One of the joys of living in Pennsylvania. NO front plates required!

Are there any recommendation for good tow hook plate holders?
