Another 981 to 987 swap... and Cayman to Boxster at that.
After flirting with the idea for months, I finally sold my 981 Cayman. It was a nice car. 6MT. PSE. 20" Carrera S III wheels. I enjoyed it very much. But, like I mentioned in a previous thread, since I was only driving it sparingly, it seemed a bit more than I wanted or needed to have sitting in the garage. You've heard it from other people before, but I just felt I could have 90% of the fun for a little over half the price. I was lucky to find a very clean 2009 987.2 base Boxster with PDK and Sport Chrono and I got a deal on it ($22K with 55K miles and a $60K build sheet) for a little over half what I sold my 981 for. I'm a former S2000 guy, but haven't had a convertible in a while. I prefer the looks of a coupe personally, but there is a positive to being able to drop the top. Plus, this car has the added benefit of being something that my wife will also drive (being a PDK instead of a 6MT) and that means it should get put to good use by both of us.
This is my 4th Porsche and I don't think it'll be my last. I'm still in search of the "keeper," but it'll have to be something special, like a Boxster Spyder, GT3, GT4, air cooled 993 or even a 997.2 GTS (one of my all time favorites). In the meantime, this 987.2 is definitely the best bang for the buck Porsche I've ever owned.

Good move , makes sense. PDK Boxster keeps my wife happy and the manual Spyder is my keeper. Sounds like you will get your special car soon enough.

Congrats on the new drop top! They’re amazingly fun cars and at that price they are in insane bargain. I’ve started messing with other brands and while they all have some nuances there is nothing like a Porsche. Enjoy in good health.

Nice, I made the same move myself, from a 981 Cayman GTS to a 987.1 Boxster S. Then I added a Cayman R, but that's a different story. I just like the idea of a 300HP roadster for $22K.

I totally agree. I picked up a 2010 MT Boxster in October and love it. My wife loves to drive it as it’s less intimidating than the GTS. So it gets used twice as much. The fun factor is off the charts. The Boxster is a happy fun compliant car to drive whereas the GTS ( we call it the beast) feels like it wants to be driven hard to be really happy. Not that that is not fun also😁 it’s just a little more work. Enjoy! We plan on keeping our Boxster for quite a while.
