DME report results for a 987.1
Hi all. I'm looking at a 2006 Cayman S with 43k miles, and I'd like to get some input on the DME report I just received. Current owner has had the car for ~10k miles. Everything on PPI looks good, engine runs fine, no noises, regular maintenance. Car is currently at the PPI shop.
Number of ignitions for Range 1: 2183 / 1316.2h Number of ignitions for Range 2: 154 / 1222.4h Number of ignitions for Range 3: 49 / 930.6h Number of ignitions for Range 4: 0 / 0h Number of ignitions for Range 5: 0 / 0h Number of ignitions for Range 6: 0 / 0h Operating hours counter: 1399.6 I understand Ranges 1 and 2 are normal, but the concern is with 3. The fact that it happened almost 500hrs ago seems like a good sign? Is 49 "ignitions" a lot? Worth having the shop do borescope? Thank you. |
It's a fairly typical report for a 987 driven aggressively enough to activate the rev limiter. The range 3 over-revs are inconsequential.

That DME report is LexVan approved.

Thank you. Borescope results showed damage to at least 1 cylinder, maybe due to the momentary overrev? Had to pass on the car. Search goes on for a Cayman S.
|
I doubt it was the over-rev. What kind of damage was seen? Can you post the pic?

No pics. Shop said the scoring was pretty significant, as if someone had taken a razor to the wall. |
