WRT the oil filer adapter: you are confusing the adapter for the 987.1; for the 987.2 application LN specifically recommends the NAPA 1348 https://lnengineering.com/spin-on-oi...yman-only.html

I dunno, I would seek clarity from LN. I read the line your referencing as "We use NAPA and DT40 [for the street] ... or the billet filter and XP9 for the track" The very end of the descriptions says point blank: "For track use, our Billet High Performance Oil Filter is recommended." I could definitely be wrong, but I have always been under the impression you're supposed to run the billet filter on track in all applications. Probably worth a call or email.

I talked to Charles Navarro (LN Eng founder) numerous times on the phone and have exchanged many emails. I was going to order the billet filter, but was suggested I stick with the Napa 1348. I will reach out to the LN guys and see what they have to say.

Fair enough. Please let us know what they say, and sorry for derailing the thread a bit.

All good, the wording in their website is confusing -- it is what lead me to inquire about the billet oiler filter too. I just talked to LN and the NAPA 1348 is in-fact the correct filter to use for the 987.2, for track use, with their spin on adapter.

Cheers,

True, but it's worth consideration whether to stick with high Ca/Na oils un-proven to combat LPSI when several other options will provide all the protection you need on track and also provide additional protection for the 10% on the street. I'm not a fan boy of any brand of oil, just sharing some info that is verifiable by research and industry trends.

It does say in the link above that for track use the billet filter is recommended. See last sentence. I’m guessing that it can’t hurt.

The billet filter is 80 micron, the Napa filter is 19 micron, a Mobil 1 M1-113A which fits Corvettes is 5 micron and has a 22 psi threshold for bypass. So what does the micron level do to the oil pressure? I would think the extended oil change Mobil 1 filter would give lower pressures due to back pressure on the oil going through the smallest filter holes, while the billet would give the highest pressures, but would be lacking in the filter catigory though but good for higher pressure race use. Napa would be in the middle.

The information on the page is overly generalized. The billet filter does not even fit the spin on oil filter adapter for the 9A1, the threads are different.

The billet filter is for M96/7 engines and is intended to help with oil starvation these engines suffer from. Read the full description on the billet filter page.

Again, I just exchanged emails with LN about this topic: for the 9A1, the NAPA 1348 is the correct filter for the track.

Dang! I just went out to the garage and checked the threads. They are indeed different. Thanks for saving me from myself!

Anyone want a brand new billet oil filter?

Doh! I do wish LN would clean up the wording on their site, it is indeed confusing!

I've been tracking my '10 987.2S for 3 years. Roughly 30 track days a year. First 2 years was drive to and from track. Last year was trailering and 100% track 0% street.

I've been using Mobil1 0W-40 since day 1.

Every oil change had a sample sent to Blackstone. Every report comes back saying same thing. Oil is doing its job. Minimal to zero wear. Extend the interval. Starting changing every 3-4 track days. Then 5-6. Now 7-8.

Not an endorsement. Just a datapoint.

It looks like Mobil 1 rebranded their "European" oil to the "FS" and "FS X2" lines. I have been running Mobil 1 "European" 0w-40 (zinc level 1100) in my 987.2 without issue however, like you, I am wondering is that the best oil for track days / street driving.

I noticed they did come out with a 5W-50 that looks to be more race oriented which should work in the 987.2 S in the summer months (I would switch back to 0W-40 for the cold Midwest winters).

They also have something call Mobil 1 Racing oil but not sure how that would work in our engines along with emissions control parts such as cats (much higher zinc levels 1850)

https://mobiloil.com/~/media/amer/us...pecs-guide.pdf

I have also been looking at Driven DT and DI oils as well as Motul 300V.

Finally, I too have been looking at getting the LN adaptor, Napa filter kit along with the Deep Sump. I hear mixed reviews on if these are actually needed with a stock suspension and Michelin 4S tires as I am not pulling the Gs of a car with full race suspension and with race rubber.

Interested in continuing to see what people choose especially for racing a 987.2 S.

It gives me a good excuse to blast your shop with broadcast emails! BTW: thanks to you and Stephen for your quick replies in clarifying my questions this week.
