Carnewal GT exhaust from placing the order, to the sound clips
#16
I did the Carnewal modification by shipping my mufflers to Seattle. They were returned in just a few days and I love the sound. I had previously tried the Fabspeed cat back system and it was OK but had a slight drone at a certain RPM. Glad I kept my original exhaust. I think that the OEM sport exhaust would be my first choice, but for the money, the Carnewal is great. Hard to make a choice by listening to YouTube videos, but trust me when I say you will notice a significant sound improvement without being too loud and with absolutely no drone.. Highly recommended. My car is a 14 CS. and I have had the muffler mod for over two years now.

I had the exhaust installed and so far I'm liking the sound. I am waiting til I get 200 miles on it before posting any comparisons or results. So far, so good though and it's definitely an improvement.

Ok I got the Carnewal GT exhaust installed, no issues. The exhaust Carnewal sent was basically same condition as the one I am sending back to them. I am opting to have Gert at Carnewal arrange Fex Ex pick up for the exhaust for $200. So far, Fed Ex is dragging their feet a bit playing phone tag but I'm in communication with Gert so no harm done. I'll have the exhaust back to him soon.
I didn't get the opportunity to make the comparison videos I wanted as my phone has a feature that filters out sound for "noise" so they turned out too quiet. (My muffler sounds got muffled!) I didn't feel the comparison videos did enough justice to the difference in sound, and so far the "in the cockpit" videos aren't any better quality. I did record some videos with the new GT exhaust last night and today though and any 987.2 owner should notice quite a difference as the .2's are possibly the quietest Porsche ever built. The GT exhaust adds the growl that is completely missing from the 987.2. The sound is greatly improved and this is how the Cayman should sound from the factory. It's 100% Porsche flat six sound, not any different flavors mixed in like all of the other aftermarket exhausts that I have heard. And that's why the comparison videos don't do it justice, because it's the same song, just deeper and louder.
So I dug up the best comparison videos I found on Youtube and I'll let those videos tell the story as the differences are quite noticeable. The videos are better than what I could do. Do yourself a favor and watch them all. And if anyone has a suggestion of what they would like me to take a video of, I will do my best to play requests.
The sound is amazing shooting up the RPMS when taking off or hitting the pedal when driving. You know that beautiful Cayman flat six sound that really stands out at 5k RPM? Well now it starts at 2500 RPM and just gets better as it rises. And as for drone, there is literally none. As in 0.0%. Driving in low RPM highway, you won't even know you have a new exhaust until you step on the throttle a little harder.
This is my video, it's not a comparison, just the installed GT exhaust after putting 200 miles on it. (Huge difference in sound after 100 miles as opposed to right out of the install.) The first part of the video is a cold start in my garage, the second is a warm start and revs in a parking garage. But again, the videos don't really do the improvement justice.
Here's good exhaust sound comparison video.
Finally, this video is best of all. Props to the guy who spent all the time it took to make this video because it doesn't get any better than this. If this doesn't make you want the GT exhaust, you must be a Fabspeed or Borla, louder the better kinda guy. Nothing wrong with that, but I'm just not into changing the song or waking the neighbors (more than I already do.)

You GOTTA get the Fabspeed X-Pipe MaxFlo dual tip to finish it off.. Definitely makes a significant diff.
That OEM Mono T-Tip is the worst!
Apologies in advance. That sounded snotty.
I'm a snotty Porsche guy with a Base Cayman. I'm sure that's a violation somewhere in The Book of Renn.

Here are a few more data points!
I didn't notice a difference in sound with the X-tips but I did notice that the engine rev'd slightly freer, most noticeable when letting off the throttle. There was harder engine braking with the stock tips vs x-tips.
Carnewal GT exhaust + Fabspeed X-tips
Carnewal GT exhaust + Fabpseed X-tips + Fabspeed Catless headers

Did the entire GT Exhaust mod with Fabspeed X-Pipe tips at the same time.
It was quite a change from the bone stock mufflers w/OEM mono tip.
I love it!
Here is my vid on the resulting exhaust notes (jump to ~2:42 to get the full blast in Sport Mode):

Gert recommends the dual T tip exhaust from the 981S for maximum performance and sound.
I got the Cayman R exhaust (he calls it the GTS exhaust) which is the 55mm pipes (vs the 48mm on the base / S). I do feel my 987.1 base is a hair faster off the line. And the sound is amazing! 😊

New Subscriber here... I am interest in the Carnewal exhaust mod as well. Do you still have it on your car ? I am in SE Michigan as well as was wondering if it was possible to meet and hear the exhaust in person ?
