Default Sapphire Blue Manual 981C A Unicorn?

Deliberating I’m selling my 996 for a 981 Cayman. There doesn’t seem to be many manual sapphire blue cars around. Are these super rare?

I wouldn't call a SB manual 981 a unicorn, but there are not a ton of them. There really just aren't many bright colored 981's. When I was shopping, with Sapphire Blue, Racing Yellow, and Guards Red as my top 3, I believe 2-3 cars out of 100+ were yellow and only a handful were blue. Combine that with most being PDK, and any manual bright car is kind of rare-ish.

Definitely very rare. I bought the last new one (in manual) a couple years and sadly sold it last year. Obviously biased, but I think Sapphire Blue is the color to have on a Cayman. Works much better than on a 911 IMHO.

It's worth the wait if you have the patience.

Kiznarsh, that's a great looking car! No rush here. I'm happy hanging on to the 996 until the right car comes along.

I had one, GTS, didn't seem that rare. Sold it in Ohio last year.

Wow, some great Sapphire Blue pics!! I wanted one, but like Bash Hat, struggled to find one at all, much less one that had the specs I wanted. I only found one like I wanted in the 6 months I looked and they wanted about $10k north of what it was worth. In the end I found my second choice (white) with everything I wanted spec-wise at a fair price and could not pass it up. Good luck with your search, hopefully you will have better luck than I did.

I do love Sapphire blue and almost ordered one, but went with guards red instead. Sapphire was a close 2nd place on color for me.

You are right in that there aren't many of them out there. People seem to love boring colors with these cars for some reason.

Apologize if this is posted elsewhere, but I have a SB Manual CS and would love to know how “rare” it is.....is their any official or unofficial production numbers that can be referenced?

As far as I recall from other questions and answers, no. You can generally find total production numbers by year, but Porsche hasn't / no longer publishes data to know how many cars were built with specific options. I too would love to know how rare my car is. I ordered mine in dark blue metallic because I thought sapphire blue was too common.

It is a great color.

Saw this at CFOS and had to take a pic.

There was a SB base Cayman 6MT that was for sale in Tampa for a couple months, but sold recently.

Sapphire Blue works perfectly on Caymans. It was my first choice but none were available when I looked a couple of years ago. I ended up with racing yellow which in my opinion is also an awesome color (I know a lot of folks do not like it).
