Can sport chrono be programmed?
I have my multi function screen broken. I found on ebay a gauge cluster that has 88000 miles which would mean that I only have to drive the car for another 300 miles and then document the change.
the issue is that new one does not have sport chrono in the multi function.
can that be programmed in after the change?

I believe the PIWIS can do that but call your local dealer to confirm....most larger Pcar independents also have a PIWIS but may not have experience with that one.

My 987.1 S had the Sport Chrono software added by the dealer several years after it was first sold, so it's do-able. Cost $720 for Porsche San Diego to install.

Right, also had sport added to a 987.2, I was talking about the possibility that the PIWIS with Porsche approval may be able to match his new cluster to his old cluster miles

My concern would be any security coding that may need to be done at the dealer. I swapped clusters on an Audi few years ago when the mileage was the exact same on both... the new cluster would work the speedometer and the mileage would go up, but all other function was disabled as the replacement cluster was stuck in "SAFE" mode. A trip to the dealer allowed the security programming to be cleared for about $140. No other coding was necessary as the mileage was the same.

^ This.
I assume the 987 is similar to a 997, but I replaced my 997 gage cluster about a year ago with a red-dial version.. Dealer has to program the new cluster to your old car in order for it to work.
Even if your mileage is very close between the two, I would bet (again based on my 997 experience) that you will still need a dealer to "marry" the two.. AFTER that, then you can address the lack of a Sport Chrono function..

^^^ what was said here.
I swapped a Turbo cluster into my Cayenne, and in order for all the functions to work, a PIWIS was needed to clear the VIN from the new cluster and set it to the VIN for my car for all my features to work again.

I also had Sport/Sport+ added to my 2009 Boxster PDK. Other than adding the two extra buttons it was a software code from Porsche Corp. As others have stated I guessing you need a PIWIS at least and maybe a dealer to recode the new cluster to your car. By the way I really love the Sport+ on the track, keeps RPMs between 4K and redline.
