In looking at pics of a million cars on Autotrader, I haven't seen any multifunction paddles, so I didn't know they existed. Do you happen to have a part number readily available for that type wheel?

Let me put it this way, paddle shifter completely changed the driving experience for me. So much better, no missed up or down shifts.
Buttons are non intuitive and horrible imo . I hated them in such a pure sports car.
Easy swap out as well so get the right car, add 1k for a new wheel.

Thanks, Hyper. I am adding that to my mental cost for the car, but the wheel shown above doesn't look like a $1K addition.

Another vote for paddles. Use paddles on my Ferrari, and it seems more natural than the Porsche buttons. Just wish they were mounted on the wheel and not the column. Lately, I've taken to using the PDK shifter to change gears rather than use the buttons...T

Guess I just enjoy slapping the PDK selector up and down since I have thumb buttons and never even use them

Currently I have the “thumb” buttons and while I was getting use to the car I downshifted when I didn’t want to. Now that I am use to it I only go down on the left and up on the right like the paddles... soooo I would prefer the paddles

+1

I gotta have the paddles, but I saw a video of a PDK Cayman w/Buttons on a canyon run.. and the guy was shifting with the PDK selector the whole time.
That'll work! Made the buttons much less of an issue (in my brain).

I think a bigger picture view is that I would not want to get use to the thumbtons. As far as I know, every performance car I have ever driven besides Porsche had the same paddles. Ferrari, Lambo, Audi R8, BMW, Maclaren, every one of them uses the same standard. Nice to be using something you know will likely exist for 20 years, not something you need to change.

Can the thumb button be used with thumb ahead for upshift and pointer finger back on the top for downshift?

Sorry, I do not.
But also note there are many many varieties of steering wheel options, adapters, and ability to modify.

As noted above, I swapped my non-MF buttons to a paddle with no drama, and others have similarly. Details here.
Many flavors of up and down MY adapters available from a number of places (including you by replacing clock-spring and a PIWIS), and German Performance Service.

Yes.
But, that feels extra weird to me...
A little like trying to rub your head, and pat your stomach at the same time.

Here is the most recent version in leather... https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/991LEAG2GT.html

I'm guessing if you email Suncoast they will get you the right part that fits.

While that is the most recent, make sure the one you get will use the airbag you currently have, since you'll want to swap that over, if not the cost goes up a bit more since you have to get a new airbag as well. Here's a link to the 981: https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/991SD.html and in the drop down you can get Multifunction and heating.

I don't mind the buttons, they are amusing

The paddles are infinitely better though.
