Default Over-rev report comments?

2005 Boxster S 36,000 miles
Seller is third owner for the last 4k miles. First two owners and previous usage unknown.

IGNITIONS
Range1 3668
Range2 259
Range3 5
Range4 0
Range5 0
Range6 0

HOURS
Range1 663h
Range2 401h
Range3 198h

Engine hours: 1044h

Deal-breaker or no biggie?
Order compression/leak-down test?
Avg speed of 34mph doesn't indicate much (if any) track time or abuse?

Looks clean and runs good. (Says PPI tech)

Is this about 5sec total bouncing against the rev limiter (3668 Range1 ignitions)?

No, Range 1 is not bouncing off the rev limiter.

The report is good. If you don’t want the car or are trying to drag them down on price you’ll have to find a different excuse.

Thx for the link. Says for 987 Range 1 and 2 are at or slightly below rev limit. Range1: 7200-7500. Range2: 7500-7700.
What’s the rev limit on 987.1 S?

I *think* it is the same as the 981, at 7600. Could be wrong on that. I’ll own a 987.2 at some point but that doesn’t help now! Doesn’t matter either way in this case. It’s not a perfect report, but it’s fine.

I'm not going to do the math regarding the amount of total time, and it's not important in this case, regardless.

On a 987.1 the DME over-rev ranges are (& with a redline of 7,200):

Range #1 7,200-7,500
Range #2 7,500-7,700
Range #3 7,700-7,900

#1 and #2 are fine and normal. And a long time ago.
#3 are not ideal, but yours were a long time ago, and only 5. It was a slight mis-shift, and the guy got the clutch back in quickly (most likely scenario)
You have nothing above #3 and that's great.

This car hit the rev-limiter in Range #1 and Range #2. Yes, it got "bounced off the rev-limiter" but it's no big deal (oil should be above 180). These are most likely from very hard, aggressive, up shifts.

Incorrect. See above.

Thx. How common would this report be for street cars with zero track time? If you took all street Boxsters and ranked their over rev reports from best (zero over-revs) to worst (tons of over revs) what % of them would be below (worst than) this one?

The concern is not only the engine condition but also what the report suggests about how the car has been used or treated overall (abuse?).

This DME report is excellent.

Did not realize it was so low on the 987.1 S. Always get something good from your posts.

As we’ve both said, all good here. This guy worries like I do when buying a car. Kindred spirit.

Nobody is going to have that data except PCNA. That is a very clean report, and most likely not tracked (not that it matters, really, if it's been properly maintained). Buy the car, if you like it. I haven't ran DME on my car, but bet it's far worse than that and it's a damn PDK!

hf1, I thought you were looking for a 981 S or GTS?, (I almost contacted you about mine but can't part with it for current values) Did you change your mind and now considering a 987.1?
