Default Recommendation for aftermarket Battery Maintiner

I am looking for an inexpensive battery maintainer for my 981 boxster which does the job. Are there any recommendation for solid aftermarket devices?

thank you in advance
John

I've used the predecesor to this one on my motorcycles and 987.1 for many years:

and I'd imagine it's probably better than my old ones.

For my Porsche, I use this accessory plugged into the cigarette lighter outlet: http://www.batteryminders.com/12-24-...cle-power-plug

I use "Battery Tender" with optional cigarette lighter plug. Battery Tender is appx $39.00.

Also use the Battery Tender. Something to consider with the above rec. desulfating charger, you'll have to get a non-desulfator if you ever switch to lithium.

I previously would have recommended the CTEK brand of trickle chargers and battery maintainers, but due to some quality issues I had with my MUS 4.3, I won't. Even sent it back to CTEK and got it back with the same issue after they ran a "full suite of tests". Issue is the quality of the pin connectors within the plastic connectors used to connect the output power cable to the various types of cables for connecting to your battery or car. I don't abuse equipment either. I will not be buying another CTEK. I know several people will chime in to this thread saying CTEK products are awesome. Maybe for them they are, but I won't have one again.

I had a similar experience with a BatteryTender, which is why I switched brands.

Have had my single unit $60 battery tender for > 10 years for the motorcycle. A 4 node Batter Tender unit was added to the garage a few years ago to charge pair of hibernating sports cars and one motorcycle.

I use the quick release adapters wired to the battery, run a long cable (extenders are $5) to the hood and voila easy connect/disconnect for those occasional dry winter days.

Its almost time to hibernate the 981 here in Eastern PA: we've been fortunate that there is no salt or snow yet on the roads but its coming...

I don't own it yet, but a friend recommended the NOCO Genius 3.5 Amp to me:

I've used the same battery tender for 10+ years and it still works great. Only 1.5 amps, so it won't charge fast, but it is perfect for long term storage.

Is the Porsche branded CTEK a “non-desulfator”? I mean the more “basic” one pictured (note: I don’t believe so since it says something to the effect of “for lead acid batteries” on the side.

I've had a couple Battery Tenders for 10+ years with good luck. I've got their little direct wire kit attached to the battery and then run up and out the passenger side frunk area so it's an easy plug into without opening the frunk. It will also work as an easy connection from outside the frunk it the battery ever does die and I can't open the frunk to get access to it.

I have had great success with these:

Amazon Amazon

They are pretty reasonably priced and do a great job on my cars.

It looks like the 5A Porsche pro model has a lithium mode which won't desulfate. The 8 step CTEK's will desulfate in the first step and shouldn't be used on a lithium battery.

I've always used a CTEK charger (the Porsche Tequipment chargers are make by CTEK) and have had excellent luck. The MUS 4.3 I used on my 981 worked flawlessly, and does include desulphation as part of the cycle. Kept my battery fresh. Quick start when the car sat all winter. No issues at all. I found the CTEK customer service people fine to work with as well. Sorry several of you had bad luck with their chargers.
