Cayman Dash Clock Options...
... another thread on options for that nearly useless stopwatch on the 987.2 dash.
I do not have PCM because of Japan navi installation instead, so I do not have the <Set>, <Chrono>, <Clock> option on the on board computer menu. Which, I am not even sure was an option on any 987.2 market? Has anyone had this function (for either sub-register enabled as a clock) activated in a non-PCM car? After numerous investigations, it seems there is no way to either enable or install a later model clock to replace the stop watch in a 987.2.

They do however come on automatically with the light switch in the <Home> position. But without a physical switch, I cannot see how they could be activated for driving. I thought perhaps high beam on with parking only, but nope. One dealer I visited suggested this was normal. Which it may be for Japanese Cayman, as the manual says, 'In Some Countries, Difference are Possible Due to Provisions of Law'. But, AFAIK there is no limitation on fogs with main lamps as most JDM, including our CR-V have just that. Appreciate the comment! |

Investigating further with my DMM, it appears this is the pin out of the Cayman S stopwatch: https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...5aac035efa.jpg With this information, it seems everything needed to power a conventional 52mm dash clock is right there in the (BMW part numbered) MQS / TE Connectivity connector. All that is needed is a pigtail to connect the clock spade connectors to the car's MQS plug. This version has little buttons adjacent to the 4 and 8 markers. So, the clock remains illuminated with lights on, and also comes on when you open the door, or lock with the remote - then goes off after 5 seconds or so... I am however a function over form driver, and though the stopwatch is indeed pretty, its nearly useless status signaled its demise... One option not discussed above is to replace the VDO face with a face from the Macan clock also shown. I've done numerous similar replacements, but the dead sub-register (without hands, or fake hands like Singer's fake Heuer) is nearly as bad as the initial problem.
