Default S2000 motor rebuild recommendation

My dear friend tangled with a GTR on the twisty roads of N. California & held his own for a while. Unfortunately he over-rev'd the car & it quit. No CEL & it turns over, although doesn't sound normal in doing so.
Many members have or had these cars, & know they're a high reving engine. Does anyone know of a good shop in Marin, Mendocino, or Sonoma county? He'd even take it North of the Bay area if need be.
The car has been great for 15 years & finally gave up on him. I'm not sure if he's done the timing belt, or whether or not it's that anyway. Any recommendations would be very appreciated!

Sorry to hear! S2000 engine is pretty solid. I've been redlining it in first four gears, as conditions permit, for the past 12 years! But, never a money-shift! Anyway, you might want to post up here:

Thank you for that advice the_rider. He's had the car many years & it's been pretty much bulletproof. I'll tell him to do a search on that forum.

I would not rebuild the motor on the S2000.

Most likely dropped the valve with the overrev. My car ran even after the overrev but after about 300 more miles it gave up.

If bottom end is fine, then new head might do the job, but I suggest looking for a used motor it will be a better bet down the road.

Since in Norcal, I suggest contacting Blacktrax Performance in Fremont as they are really good with S2000 inside and out.

if it's an AP1, chances are bores are scored, might as well refresh or as you said fit an ap2v2 2.2
