987 High Mileage?
I am looking at a 2008 987 Automatic and it has 183,000 miles. It seems to be in very good condition, and at a dealer it is only $9000.
I don't know much about these cars, so are they reliable? Should i stay away from this car?
Thanks,

Why not, what's the worst that happens? If it made 183K it will probably do another 50K.
Now, unless it had a whole lot of work to get there, the suspension will likely be shot, I'd check out the rotors and see if it has enough brake fluid, drain the transmission fluid and see it it's a solid or a liquid...
But $9K for a 987 is pretty darn low.

I just picked up my 05 manual 987 with 108,000 miles for $7,000. After purchase I had it inspected by a Porsche specialist and sent an oil analysis to Black Stone. Both places said the car is in amazing shape.
Now $9,000 with 180k, that I dont know. I dont think anyone can say thats NOT high millage for these cars. Impressive if its in good condition though, maybe those were highway miles then?

It looks pretty good to me.
I definitely think it has a lot of highway miles. I checked the carfax, In May of 2015 it had 87000 miles. Now it has 183000. Thats 27,500 miles a year from 2015 on. I came to the conclusion that it had to be highway miles.
What do y'all think of the car

The IMS bearing in the 987.1 cars was the third and last version of IMS. Failures are rare -- less than one percent according to a number of people on the forum -- and many of those occurred in low mileage cars. I would not worry about it. There are a number of postings on Rennlist with links to videos that explain the various IMS designs and failures they were prone to experiencing. The video below was from the PCA.

FYI... It's not uncommon to find a replacement motor in the $3000 range. I figured in a worst case scenario I could buy a replacement and swap it myself. Used parts can be found on ebay or car-parts at very reasonable prices.

As long as you are aware that, any future repairs may exceed the value you have in the car and be prepared to donate it to a charitable cause at the end of the day.
