For a while I had both a 2004 Boxster S (Anniv. model) and a 2006 911 C2S Cabriolet. I had previously owned a 1980 911SC Targa and found that compared to the Boxster S, the 2006 C2S wasn't as settled and traded it for a second Boxster (2012 Boxster S Black Edition-current car). Eventually I sold the 2004 but wish I had kept both.
I recently drove brand new 911 GTS and Turbo S in Germany. On the Autobahn, they were a hoot and very powerful and fast. But for my normal driving, I like my Boxster S.

While I prefer the NA Flat 6, the reality is, the current Gen cars are faster. That said, I traded my 981GTS for a 981GT4 because that's my grail car. And I love it. Maybe you will do the same for a Spyder.
As for more fun, it depends on driving style. Both platforms are very, very good. And if you adapt your driving style, have similar feel. I prefer the Cayman because it just feels lighter, better balanced, and more precise. These things equal more fun for me.

I've had a 911 and currently have a 981.
The 911 was a lot of fun, teasing me with the rear end, wanting to play , Lots of booty sway , But warning me, "I better behave !"
The 981 Is more of that silent, shy type, But more then willing to go the distance ….
They are 2 different types of personalities ,
Both wonderful in their own right and when you get in and drive , you realize that they are both unmistakably Porsches.
As for daily driving, I miss the 911 , but love the 981 .
Is one love better than another ? I think not...

OP, difficult question unless you specify which 911. 911, 911 SC, 911 3.2, 911 G50, 964, 993, 996, 987, 991, Turbos, S's GT3, etc. And Boxster/Cayman variants? 986, 987, 981,718, base, S, R, GTS, GT4 and my new favorite:987.2 Spyder.
I've owned/driven '87 911 G50, '00 986 Boxster base, '89 951 all manual transmissions and '11 987.2 Spyder (PDK Sport Chrono). I drive the cars 3-4 times a week (except Old Man Winter). My ranking: 987.2 Spyder, '89 951, '87 G50 and very close next place the 986 Boxster. I recall drives with the 986 with the top down that were exceptional, the mid engine balance the responsiveness, etc. but when I was done I'd say "Dude let's do the G50, the mechanical, noise, engagement, light weight, tossibility is exceptional so I got them in a tie situation. The '89 951 is almost Porsche's best kept secret, a 2.5L 4, Turbo that blows away most of what's out there, I mean when the Turbo kicks in a lot of toasted cars are left on the highway, the car has a race car suspension M030, 50/50 balance, LSD, a work of art, it has Fabspeed down pipe, 200 cell cat and a chip so I might be cranking 280HP in a car that weighs 2900 pounds. Then, drum roll please... the 987.2 Boxster Spyder, Porsche's best kept secret. My first "modern" Porsche. I'm blown away. The responsiveness is exceptional, the balance, the steering, the PDK paddles, sport mode and what happens when the top is off? Forget about it. I can't get enough.

I had a 981 CGTS and traded it for a 991.2 GTS coupe. Would I go back to a 981? No. The 991.2 is a better car in every regard. Well, maybe that high revving NA flat six. However, you can no longer get that gem of an engine.

So I have driven the following P-cars over the years to compare: 944, 944 Turbo, 911 G series, 996TT Tip, 997, 997 GT3 and 987.1S. I will compare the different 911 I have drive. To my 987.1S:
-911 G series was very cool and lots of fun. Very raw and lots of fun. Also could bite you but lots of road feel and engagement with the driver.
-996TT very fast and very comfortable. Much more relaxed then the G-series but still fun. May have been better if it was a manual and not a tip.
-997 very much a GT car. Felt more like a 928 then a 911 to me.
-997.2 GT3, best car I have ever driven hands down. Raw, loud, fast, exciting and lots of feel. You think it and the car does it! Feels like the modern version of the G-series and easier to dive but with all the feel you remeber.
-987.1S is a real sports car, fast lots of feedback and tossable and exciting. I Like it better then the 997 but it is no GT3. It is the sports car to the 997 grand tourer. Best car I have ever driven minus the GT3.

Depends on your preference. Ive owned a 981 Cayman S, 991.1 Carrera S and my current 981 Spyder. All three sport suspension, the Carrera S a pure performance build with every performance option. The Carrera was the noticeably quicker better performing car, better turn in, mid corner grip and faster off the corners. The 981’s feel more go karty but the Carrera is more confidence inspiring and higher performance. That said I love the way my Spyder slides around. Which is more fun is really up to your preference.

I think the answer to what’s more fun is akin to asking what’s your favorite pastime, lots of good choices based upon personal preference. For me my 981 Spyder tops the list, and I currently own a ‘18 991.2 MT Cab and a ‘18 GT3 Touring.
If you (OP) like what you have now but want a bit of an upgrade I suggest trying to get the new Spyder when it comes out. Though that may be a tough job to accomplish.

The 981 Spyder (Boxster) is glorious, far more docile/easygoing (until pushed), and just silky smooth. It’s easier to loose grip when pushing really hard in corners but it’s really balanced and very very capable.
If if I could have only one, it’d be closer than you’d think, but would probably keep the GT3 Touring (who wouldn’t really?). I think it says a lot for how great 981 Spyder is that so many owners of it and GT3’s feel they’re so damn close in driving enjoyment.
I will say this: Spyder is most beautiful car I’ve ever owned.

I enjoy them equally but for different reasons. If I had a choice of any but only one I will always lean towards the 964 turbo or heavily modified WB 964. The newer cars are amazingly capable but at a cost on the road where they can't be truly enjoyed unless you're breaking the sound barrier. I like the old school feel and communication they offer with just enough modern features and safety. You can enjoy them at any speed but really come to life the faster you go. Considering their age they really were an amazing car. We did a cobb tune on a 718S and it surpassed the GT4 but still did very little for me fun wise.

I have a 987.2 Cayman S and 997.2 Carrera GTS. The 911 is head and shoulders above the Cayman as far as driving enjoyment goes, for me. I'd sell the Cayman in a heartbeat and I only bought it in the first place so I don't drive my 911 to work every day. Whereas the 911 is a keeper and I'll add more 911s in the future, this will probably be my only Cayman. Cayman is easier to drive and less rewarding. 911 is more challenging and has more of a playful character, owing to the rear engine.
