Default '11 Cayman S exhaust vs. "R" exhaust

Factory listed improvements for Cayman R performance upgrades included a different exhaust manifold/system. Curious as to interchangeability with S and any improvement in performance for S without aftermarket exhaust mods (and other aftermarket changes).

From Carnewal website:
http://www.carnewal.com/products/987...man-R-mufflers

For the CaymanR, the tube between the manifold and the actual exhaust housing is enlarged from 48mm (like any other 987-2, incl Spyder) to 55mm. This results in a better performance and more sound.
The Factory Sport Exhaust retrofit kit also has the 48mm tubes.

The R catback is a direct bolt-on for 987.2 Cayman S and Base. You may feel a slight improvement in power, but since the cats are both in the headers (2 per side), replacing headers with aftermarket sport or cat-less will yield much more power and sound.

Very good question.
Just speculating but -by reading their statement- it seems that if you have the PSE you get, automatically, the 48mm.
Do I remember wrong or the BE has the same hp of the spyder?

I read it again, and there is no clear answer. BE has 330 hp, same as the R.

You could check on the parts pdf of the 987.2 if there are are different PSE parts number for the BE/R or only one valid for the whole range.
https://www.porsche.com/all/media/pd...W_GB_987-2.pdf

PS: in Italy the BE had the same hp of the spyder, 10hp less than the R

I can confirm that the R exhaust sounds different from the regular exhaust I have on a 987.1 Boxster S. I don't have the PSE on my R but I don't miss it (I had a PSE on a 981 C GTS). The R exhaust is deeper and more metallic sounding than the 987.1. I suspect part of it may be that the R reportedly has a little less sound deadening in the firewall. It's IMO a great sounding exhaust on its own.

Anyhow .2 and .1 exhausts are significantly different.
From another forum (hopefully it’s allowed, else I will try with some cut and paste, even if with the iPad is a pain):

If you ever want to sell your BE PSE, I'd be interested.
