Cig lighter shuts off on my 981 after 30 minutes. I run clips straight to the battery.

There's a somewhat hidden cigarette lighter style outlet in the left side of the passenger footwell. I don't know if the cigarette lighter shuts off after 30 minutes on the 987.1, but I know the passenger footwell outlet does not turn off. Porsche recommends using the passenger footwell outlet for a battery tender.

That's what mine did also. I had pigtails installed to the battery and ground, which made charging it simple. It's my understanding that the shutoff was seen in the late production 2016 cars only. My dealer did try to reprogram to default to 'on' for the inputs, but it didn't work. I was able to charge through the cigarette lighter without problems when I owned my 996.

I do the same with my 981 Spyder. Passenger footwell cig lighter works and the CTEK charger is plugged in right now...

Note that Suncoast posted the below notice several months ago for the Porsche battery maintainer. I've always, as a matter of habit, locked my doors when the car is garaged/stored. Those of you who don't may want to give that a try if you are experiencing your tender shutting off automatically after a certain period of time.

"Battery Maintainer Update! Notice for those using a maintainer on a 2013-2018 Boxster, Cayman, or 911 Carrera!

Porsche Update: Long term storage can put these cars in "Sleep Mode", which will disable the interior 12 volt sockets and shut off the battery maintainer. To prevent this, lock the door after setting up the battery maintainer. Or directly connect the maintainer to the recommended charging points using the optional alligator clips."

Yep. I was told by my dealer that only the late production 2016 981 cars were built using the automatic shutoff on the cigarette lighter input. Tried everything, including door locking after hookup, and it still didn't work, which is why I went with a direct battery setup. You can see by my avatar that mine really was a late build!

That one shuts off on me as well.

I tried that and it still didn't work. There is an update the dealer can do so it stays on, but it's not a big issue for me since I drive the car year round.

Unless there's an update specific to the 981, it won't work. Last year when I tried to have the system updated, they used the code for the Macan, which was all that was available at the time. They tried to recode twice, and no luck. That's when the dealer installed the pigtails (that I had purchased with my CTEK MUS 4.3) at no charge - which was a nice thing for them to do. Porsche of the Main Line in Newtown Square outside Philly - excellent dealer! Will buy from them again.

In spite of all the discussion about the 981, I have never heard of an issue with the 987.1. Pretty easy to check, plug in one day and check the next morning.

This is the only technical bulletin I have seen regarding the issue on a 981. In spite of what the bulletin says, many 981 owners, myself included, have no issues using the cigarette lighter while others cannot get it to work even if they follow the instructions.
