It all depends on how bargain you want to get. When I got mine almost six years ago, I looked for 04-06 that had the coolant pipes and transmission replaced already under warranty, and had their 70K mile service done. The cars with that completely were incredibly reliable. I picked up an 04 from the Porsche dealer in San Diego with 71K miles on it for $16,500 with a 2yr aftermarket warranty.

I'd go newer now, from what I understand anything 2011 newer shouldn't have the issue with the pipes, not sure on the tranny. If you don't care about the cosmetic upgrades the first gens are dirt cheap and with the right fix are great cars.

Audi SQ5 when I have kids or really lousy weather.

Otherwise, I’m in the Boxster.

Same here. Keyboard stand, plus amp, cables, mic stand, etc. and an 88-key stage piano. All fits. My bandmates love to see all the stuff go in and out of the little Boxster.

C63 AMG gets me through the week. It's a monster, comfortable on long trips, and the AT helps in traffic. The 987.2 CS is for the weekends and I find it to be a great balance having both.

My '06 Cayman S shares weekend use with a '99 Z3. Semi-retired and doing consulting from home, we mostly use our '04 Mini Cooper S and an '01 530i, with a '15 Jeep Cherokee for towing, snow, etc. Although we can afford newer vehicles, I've found that having a variety of relatively affordable cars is fun. Now that I've become a convert to the Boxster/Cayman religion, the Z3 and Cayman may go away at some point and be replaced by a newer Boxster.

I'm slumming it with a 2009 Honda Odyssey Hauls the lumber and surf/wind surfboards with no worries. Not exciting but dependable and cheap.
