Default 981 Boxster GTS

Hey guys. I've come from a 993 to an early (2006) Aston Martin Vantage. While the Aston is cool, it is missing the road connection I felt in my 993. Ideally I'd like to get into a 981 Spyder, but it's a little out of my budget. I've been searching cars for sale, but have not seen many white 6 speed manuals come up. What do the experts think of this car and it's asking price?

Spec is a touch light for my taste, but that might be exactly what you want.

For some reason I couldn’t pull the build sheet using the Vin # but it looks like an low optioned car as it has the standard 4 way seats, no dual zone climate control, no heated or cooled seats. Nor sure if those options are deal breakers for you.

As as far as price goes Indont think it’s a bargain ( i feel there’s definitely room to negotiate).

If you’re serious about that car I’d look or ask for the following.

PPI with an over rev report.

CarFax looks so so - it seems like possibly only 1 of the annual services have been completed and that the tires are original. Also, it looks like the in service date was around September of 2014 so the 4 year service is due.

Check the tires at that mileage your your getting close to al least needing rear tires. Also, since it’s a 2015 check the date codes on the tires as they may be near the end of their life time wise.

Personally, I’d pass on this car unless you could find a more complete service history showing that all of the annual services have been completed. I’d be more apt to look for a CPO car if you can find one.

You are correct there aren’t many white 6 speeds for sale according to the Porsche pre owned car Locator.

I cam from a 993 C4S to 2011 987.2 Boxster Spyder. I love the car, and you can buy a nice one for what you are willing to pay for the Boxster GTS.

Jim, That's LOTS of great guidance. Thank you! What would you say is a reasonable price for the car in its current condition considering what is needed?

Silver Surfer, I definitely agree the 987 spyder is great value compared to the prices of the 981 GTS. I have a local friend who has a black on black loaded with full leather, buckets, ceramics, red belts, and other cool options, that would sell me at a fair price (and I may go that way). However, I prefer the looks of the 981 just a little more even though everyone has praised the 987 spyder for its superior driving feedback. Having driven one a few times I can say it was very nice.

@air993 - I wouldn’t even make an offer until i had more info on the car. Specifically, I’d be looking at the the results of a COMPETENT PPI with an over rev report.

The other issue is the vague service history - this type of car is a tough sell without a full service history.

I echo this 100%. I went from looking at AM Vantages into an 06 C2S, to a 08 TT cab, to a 987.2 Spyder, a 993 (still own), into a 981 and BACK into a 987.2 Spyder. It is a HUGE bang for your buck and if you LOVE sublime road feel, a notchy gear box, and a super revy 3.6 then look here. The 987.2's a very very reasonably priced. Biggest Porsche bang for the dollar IMO.

P.s. and they look pretty groovy as well!

I know this sounds soft, especially coming from a So Cal guy, but heated seats are a must for me in any convertible. Makes the car more driveable in colder temps so I can actually enjoy a winter, top-down jaunt. I also think you might find some CPO 981 Spyders coming into your desired $$ sweet spot as winter nears.

For me, CPO is a huge amount of peace, too, and you aren't getting that with the GTS you're looking at.
