718 GTS + $$$ >981 Spyder?
Theoretically, if you could trade a perfect 981 Spyder with classic Spyder interior, 18 way sofas, and PCCBs (MSRP 114) for a new 718 Boxster GTS plus say....$20,000 (MSRP 90) would you do it?
IOW, dealer gives me 718 plus cash for my car. A) am I dreaming? B) would you consider it)

I wouldn’t entertain it. The Spyder is one of the most beautiful designs to come out of porsche lately...combined with a manual transmission andNA engine it would be a keepe for me.
Are you getting tired of the manual spyder top? What’s your reasoning?

I am not a fan of the styling of the Spyder and prefer the 718 GTS but, no doubt, I am in the minority.
The Spyder will probably hold it's value better and be more desirable to most people. I am also curious what motivates the swap? Is it just taking the cash out?
My guess is a 718 GTS is worth 8-10% off MSRP. Your Spyder is around 100K -+. Wait another year and pick up a CPO GTS if you want to take out dollars, IMO, unless you really want to order to your spec. My 2 cents.

Motivation is threefold:. GTS is 90% of the fun of Spyder, while allows me to take $ out, drive more often as less fiddly top, and judging by last model, as a bonus, GTS holds value better than I would have expected, even if not as well as Spyder.

Well, to state the obvious. Have you taken the GTS for a long test drive to see if it worth giving up the Spyder to you?
Me.. I wouldn't make the trade you propose if I liked the Spyder styling but we each have our own preferences. ( I understand what you mean about the top though, one reason I was never tempted by the Spyder.)

That’s a personal question, no way to get an unbiased answer because personal preferences are key. I wouldn’t trade my Spyder for any 718, regardless of how much cash was involved. I’m sure others would say the exact opposite. I had a GT3 allocation when a recent move left me with room for only one ‘second’ car. I chose to keep my Spyder and let go of the GT3.

Agree with most wouldn’t sell for a 718, but also consider the 982 Spyder will add selling pressure on the 981’s. Many don’t believe but it has a 4.0 detuned GT3 engine. If you sell a Spyder you will get between wholesale and MSRP at a dealer. Many Spyders are sitting at lots selling 105k or so ........slightly over MSRP. Spyder’s are beautiful ..........I had to sell for garage space and pre-sold for my RS incoming. Good luck....

Wow. just drove a 718 Cayman GTS. Not sure which one goes faster, but I sure know which one feels better. That motor feels like a rocket propelled bag of shrapnel.

Seems like it rides rougher than my Spyder too. Is it the vibration from the motor? Spyder seems silky. This thing seemed pretty brutish.

981 folks need to bury the turbo-hatchet and get on board with the fact that the 718's are blindingly quick and faster compared to the 981. It's no knock on the 981, as each new gen is, and should be, quicker. The 981 for sure has its advantages, but if we're looking solely at speed you gotta tip your hat to the 718.

I haven't driven a 718 GTS but I have driven a 718 Boxster S and it was a rocket. Certainly felt faster than my Spyder with all kinds of torque down low, as you'd expect. Not that I would consider getting rid of the Spyder for a 718, but if for you it's all about power, then I could see the allure of the transaction you are contemplating.
