Default Is this normal on the 981 Boxster roof top after 10 min of heavy rain?

I cleaned and waterproof the rooftop last Saturday using Porsche's tequipment. I tested it and the water generally beads. However, since it rained earlier, I wanna ask if I managed to waterproof it correctly, judging from the pictures above.

Thanks

It will bead during light rain, if it's heavy rain the fabric will get wet like that. It's still fabric and not a painted surface.

I live in the PNW and my 987 Spyder top does not leak. I've been using RaggTopp cleaner and protectant.

Looks pretty normal. Also +1 on RaggTop. Much easier to apply than Porsche product and endorsed by the maker of the fabric top.

Ok, I've been around cabriolet Porsche tops for over 12 years. That does not look normal to me.

Yes, the "wetting" looks normal. But, not the very evident spay pattern I see.

Tell me more about how you applied the Protectant? How long did you wait for the cleaning step to dry? How many coats of Protectant? How much drying time between coats? Stuff like that.

I suspect two weak areas:

1) you sprayed too close to the top
2) you did not apply 3-4 light over lapping coats with a 30 dry time between coats.

FYI. Our OE tops are factory coated with a product from Wolfstein. This is also the parent company of Ragg Topp. Lastly, the Porsche branded spray is just repackaged Ragg Topp. An excellent product.

They are one in the same products.

Re-apply, spray tip further from top, 3 over lapping coats.

Raggtopp.

Agree on tips for application. RaggTopp instruction works pretty well. That said, you can't avoid the fabric getting "wet" sometimes. That's what it's designed to do. Light rain... beads. Hose spray... beads. Sustained water exposure... wet with some beading.

I vote normal.

TBH, on the day I applied the spray was windy. I started spraying from up the windshield to down to the rear window in one spray. And then across for the 2nd layer

Yes, I think I spray it too close to the top.

I did 2 coats I think overall with drying time of 30 min each.

Can I just re apply the last 2 coats over the weekend without redoing the whole process again?

should I follow like how the guy did for the last step?

Maybe it was overkill but I covered the rest of the car with a cheap plastic drop cloth to prevent the protectant from getting onto the paint.

I used to drape the entire car too, when I used the Porsche supplied protectant. Pretty sure I lost some brain cells breathing that stuff. It's not needed with RaggTopp, but certainly won't hurt anything. Painter's tape is your friend in this exercise.

Meanwhile... Yes, it's almost impossible to get even spray unless you are in the garage and out of any wind. The gentlest of breeze is problematic. I usually spray in the garage, then roll the car out into the sun to dry (dry's FAST), allowing for multiple coats in short order.

Good luck,

Dave
