Default spyder and comfort

When I am not able to get to a track I like to drive the Spyder around town. It's such a lovely little car. However, if I'm not worried about that last 3/10s of control I'd rather not suffer the paint strips when I drive over them. So I bought some 18" rims and putContinental Extreme Contact DWS 06 on them. Really makes poodlling around town quite comfortable.

I'm kind of thinking he's referring to the Euro version of speed bumps and scrapes to the front bumper lip....just speculation though!

crosswalks and lane markings :-)
I might exaggerate from time to time, but I can feel them with the performance tires.

Hmmm - just what I was thinking. But for the situation of cold weather daily driving, to replace the summer high perf tires when our (mostly) snowless winter comes.

I have those Conti DWS o6 's on my 993 and... errr… sorry but THEY SUCK? The side walls are very soft so overnight the handling of the car completely changed. Comfortable yes, but handling wise -=they're like driving a sofa. Disappointing and I'll be swamping them out for PS2's or something. Sorry to rain on your parade. Apologies. What's your take on them handling wise?

When I have no intention of ringing the car out I can give up the handling I'm not using for some comfort. For every day cruising around town, the car works very well with the compliant tires.
I'll save the performance tires for a track day.

Unlike the PS2, the DWS06 will not feel like a set of well-waxed skis when the temperature drops below 40 deg-F (or so I have been told). Anyone got other recommendations for 18" cold weather tires for the 987.2 Spyder (for when you really don't need actual snow tires)? The high performance summer tires just don't cut it when the cold weather "shrinkage" sets in (with apologies to Geo Costanza).

I’ve heard that the Conti’s work well for winter temps and they do offer good treadwear. A friend of mine lived in KS briefly and ran his 911 through the winter on the Conti’s and he was happy with them.

I think there may be good Conti's for winter driving. There's a bunch of threads on the DWS 06 sidewalls being soft etc... but there's probably others available. I agree 100% with going for a softer A/S tire for driving in the winter months. I put Pirelli Sotozero 2's on my Golf and love them for hammering around the city.

If you're looking for a good all season performance tire, I can recommend Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+. I run them on my Volvo S40 R. They are an excellent compromise between performance/handling and wet/light snow driving. They are compliant but not to the level of rolling over when asked to perform. Look at the Tire Rack ratings - they're the at the top.

Unfortunately in either 18- or 19-inchers, no A/S 3+ set fits both front and rear of the 987.2 Spyder -- per Tire Rack.
18-inchers required are F 235/40 and R 265/40(*).
19-inchers required are F 235/35(*) and R 265/35.
(*) indicates the unavailable A/S 3+ size.

Ah, what a shame. I just assumed the appropriate sizes would be available.

I'm not sure what the 3+ means...but I searched on Tire Rack and the 'normal' 4S comes in your 18" size for both tires. I replaced the SC2's on my car with the 4S's earlier this year and they are amazing 'real world/everyday' tires. Phenomenal.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4S --> max performance summer tire
Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ --> ultra high performance all-season tire
The latter is for cold weather driving, which is what I am looking for.
