Default Looking at a 981 Cayman

I am currently looking at a 981 Cayman base and have some questions someone might be able to answer. The car in question apparently does not have navigation but does have a button for navigation. Does that button do anything and could navigation be retrofitted? (car has the basic PCM).

Thanks in advance.

My understanding is that they all have the button and that it could be retrofitted for a pretty penny, but why? I have the beefed up PCM with nav in my 981S and pretty much always use phone nav because it's better. Good luck with your search.

Here's an idea: press the button and see what happens. I mean, seriously, not to be a smarty-pants, but wouldn't that answer your question better than some stranger on the Internet?

I'd suggest that if the car does not have navigation, then the button will not do anything.

Can it be retrofitted? Sure. But it's a lot cheaper to buy a portable Garmin or just use your phone.

Car is in another state with unhelpful sales people, and don't worry you didn't sound like a smarty-pants, just an *******.

All sales posts that I've seen either have the Navi button (and navigation) or have a CD AUX button (and no navigation). I suppose it is possible a Navi button ended up in a car without navigation but it would appear to be an exception.

Unfortunately the presence of a Navi button does not mean the car is equipped with navigation (same holds true for the Satellite Radio button too). retrofitting navigation on a non-navigation PCM is cost-prohibitive. If Factory navigation is one of your must-haves on the car I would suggest you look elsewhere rather than try to retrofit something. You would save a whole lot more money that way. Or, you could get a good phone mount and use your cell phones navigation which is what most people do.

By the way, I am speaking from experience. Not my current car, but I have found another Porsche that had the navigation button and I thought it had navigation because of it. It did not.

Theres a site you can enter the vin number in and see all of the options the car came equipped with from the factory.

I have a 2014 Boxster Base with the Sound Package Plus, no nav, but I have the Map and Navi buttons.
