Default New member planning a 987.2 S purchase

Hi,I’m planning to purchase a 987.2 S next summer. The delay is due to the fact that by waiting I should be able to pay cash at that point. I looked at the predominant car pricing guides and they suggest that the average price for a minimally optioned 2009 S model is currently $21k. I looked on autotrader and the cheapest were in the $25k price range with around 70k miles. Is my pricing off-base?

I’m currently on a 4 month assignment to the Stuttgart area. Plan to go to Porscheplatz 1 to see the museum again for the third time. I totally missed the 70th celebration though. Bummer. Anyway, I’ll be reading a lot and probably will have a question or two along the way.

Jason

(P.S. if I save for another year, it's possible I'd have the funds for a 981 S...But that's a long time!)

A clean, no story 987.2 S at $21k usd is a pipe dream. Even a 987.2 base at that price is very unlikely unless over 100k miles or it has an accident history.
Base 987.2 around 50k miles can be had for $25-27k and 987.2 S really starts closer to $30k even with ~50k miles. If you can find anything cheaper than that that isn’t a basket case car, get a PPI and jump on it.

Agree

987.2S is starting at low 30s

If your budget is in the 20's youre looking at 987.1 S models

Also keep in mind they didn't make many of the 987.2 generation. I agree that low 30's on a clean car with no accidents is realistic.

Paid $34k for a very clean 987.2 Boxster with 44K miles two years ago. I felt like that was on the high end, but it was the car I wanted. It's sometimes hard to determine a good price since these cars are so rare in any given geographical area, and you can't really compare different areas directly.

Thanks for the feedback. Sounds like my target amount is around $30k.

One year ago I bought my clean 987.2 with 43K miles for $30K. It is exactly the car I wanted and worth every $0.01.

Prices can vary quite a lot with paint conditions, interior wear, options and accident history...? These are not 3-4 year old cars.

OP - I just got a base 987.2 for about $25K - couldn't be happier. The 911 Targa has been kicked out of the garage;-)

Definitely looking at >$30k for a 987.2. They’re hard to come by as well due to limited production numbers, so finding a good one could take some time. Good luck!

I've been doing some reading. I might wait and get a 981 S. It really comes down to trying both, but based on what I've read, the 981 S will suit me better.

good post! I also looked into the 987...and found that a 6-8k more can get me into a 981! I recently test drove a 981 base pdk...it was smooth, however a manual makes it feel like a sports car! Good luck with your search! I am still looking (daily!)

@ travel4life; Good luck with the search. A 981 is looking like a very high probability for me. As you have mentioned, 6-8k more for a more modern one with better styling is worth the extra amount.

Any conjecture regarding what a lightly optioned 2013 Boxster S will cost this time next year? If they're in the low 30's, I'll be in the market!

@Prodigalson777 I only see one 2013 base boxster at 30! And who knows the history of that one! Below 30k would be great! I would almost prefer the base as the S might get me into trouble!
